Which is why I'm thankful for the fact that I came here after I started doing supps.

I disagree...if I didnt find SDN I would still be under the illusion that anybody can get into dental school as long as they really want it and a 3.0 is good enough to get in because thats what the school websites say the minimum is. If I didnt find SDN my study habits would still consist of watching downloaded episodes of Arrested Development and surfing the internet till 4am. If anything I regret not finding SDN earlier.

Yeah, seeing SDN numbers motivated me as well.

All I ever heard from everybody was "Oh, dont worry you will get in." And I believed this BS because thats all I heard...this was the first place to make me realize those people have no idea what they are talking about, and the only way Im getting in is if I make some major changes.

thankful to SDN for motivating me...as well as scaring my ass off seeing all this #s.. ;P

I'm not trying to be a jerk, but someone has to ask the hard questions: what about self motivation? Did you really have to check this board before you decided to try hard?

It was just like a realization...Im not trying to plead ignorance, but thats really what it was. I simply did not know what it took or the competition getting in. I didnt even know my GPA until I saw this site and starting crunching my numbers. I went through highshcool and the first year and a half of college just doing the minimum and it worked out fine to that point. Im not a stupid person...I started studying really hard for everything and my GPA is like 3.8 this semester (so far) and its the hardest semester Ive taken so far. If someone went back in time and "showed me the light" before freshman year I would be in a much better situation.

Now Im not complaining, I know its my fault I didnt figure it out sooner, thats why im just tryin to suck it up and do as well as I can before I apply.

I'll agree with this site being helpful. Seeing the DAT scores on this site motivates you to try and do well. I found out how important it was to apply early and learned about good resources like DAT Achiever and Topscore Pro, which were extremely helpful since i didn't take the Kaplan course. I also have an idea of when people are getting interviews and the process of interviewing as well. While it's true that this site can be extremely distracting as well, i'm still glad i found it when i did.

Numbers have gone up so rapidly that if one checked the averages a few years back (when I started the postbac stuff) they would have received a very wrong impression about what was acceptable. If someone has a lot going on in their life (work, school, family) they need to choose where to put most of their effort, you can't just say, "I am going to work my hardest at everything." I would have shot for a 19 AA if I thought that is what I needed to get in and then used the rest of my time to make money or spend with the family.
