What interviews has everyone gotten?

This forum made possible through the generous support of SDN members, donors, and sponsors. Thank you.
I know somebody said that Chicago they got the invite via e-mail. Is this how most of these are coming? What about in past years? Are most interview invites and final acceptance/rejections done by e-mail, phone, or regular mail? I wonder because I'm considering letting my snailmail address with AMCAS stay as my parent's address once I go back to school so as not to back up my app, but I'd rather get interview invites and certainly acceptance/rejections myself. Any ideas?

baylor interview by snail mail for sept 7

A&M interview...sept. 20th (they only interview on thurs. for some reason)...someone called from their office

also, received an interview from UNT Osteopathic (i applied because its in tx. and no separate app, so what the heck), but not sure if i'll go...

good luck to those with a baylor interview...hopefully i'll hear from them soon... 😉

got an interview notice from Yale (MD/PhD) 2 days ago...

got Baylor invite by snail mail for Sept. 7 . . . send me a message if you're going to be there! That'd be really weird to actually meet each other, though . ..

This thread needed a bump anyway. Keep it up, guys!

Question for those who recieved Baylor interviews.

When did you send in your application info to baylor? and when did you receive word that they had received all of your application material (recs, primary, secondary, etc)?

Yale? Baylor? Tulane? Michigan? All overrated! If you want a first-rate education, apply to Hollywood Upstairs Medical College (Dr. Nick Riviera went there). I have an interview on February 30th. Wish me luck!

Just kidding! Congrats, everyone, on your interviews...and break a leg!

I submitted Baylor 7/11, but then they didn't have it and I resubmitted late in July. I mailed AMCAS 7/23. The e--mailed me that it was all complete on 7/30. I'm not a TX resident.

UTMB Interview scheduled for Sept. 7th. Baylor21-- I would really appreciate it if you could clue me in on what to expect there! Good luck on your interview and thanks in advance. 🙂

UT Houston interview on the 7th of sept - the exact day my (FAR) out of state school starts! Dang! I'm gonna see if they will move it up for me a week or so. If anyone has had a TX interview, or is having in the next few days, please message me if poss.

Lumi

PS: app complete and transmitted by TX app service on the 3rd, mailed this interview on the 13th.

Pittsburgh invite came snailmail today. For anybody that's already scheduled one (I have to wait until Monday, I guess), do they pretty much give you whatever Mon, Tues, or Fri you want, or are they just specific ones? The letter didn't really say.

Wow, congratulations to all of you getting interviews out there! I was in your shoes last year except my letters were delayed due to a snafu in the pre-med office at my undergraduate institution. Two things, first of all, most of you have great stats and shouldn't worry at all. I have much lower stats and I got into 2 allopathic schools (not ivy league, granted, but very solid) for the entering class of 2001. Second, if you don't hear from a school right away, don't assume you are automatically rejected. My application was complete in September (april MCAT) and I went to 1 interview in October, 1 in November, 1 in December, 1 in January (invited in Dec), 2 in March (invited in January), and 1 in April (invited late February). I got into the school I interviewed at in April as well as the school I interviewed at in January (pulled off waitlist at both schools). So early interviews don't always lead to acceptances and late interviews don't always lead to rejections. good luck to all of you!

praying4MD,

I just got back today from the interview at UTMB. You will have 2 interviews, one MD and one PhD. Both of the interviewers I got were very friendly and it was very low pressure. The MD asked probing questions, but they werent anything that I wasnt expecting.

The PhD just asked standard questions. Both interviewers had read my app, but they didnt know my GPA or MCATs. By the way, both also asked me what my stats were.

We were the first interview group of the year, I'd say there were about 50-60 people there. The med students are extremely friendly and go out of their way to tell you about the school, even the things they dont like about it.

I met a few of the residents/attendings there also and they were likewise very personable and down to earth.

The director of admissions told us that they rank about 1000 people and place your name on the rank list (if they decide to rank you) within a month of your interview (provided that your file is complete).

I'm not sure how deep UTMB has to go into the pile of 1000 rankings to get a full class, as I'm sure it can vary substantially.

UTMB has a very strong commitment to serving indigent patients which I liked. They have a prison hospital and the Shriners Burn Hospital is on the island also.

As far as what to expect in the interview, I dont think anything I can say would be surprising. Pretty standard stuff. The hardest question I was asked was why they should select me from the other applicants, which wasnt really that hard.

I did get a couple of ethics questions about stem cells and some role playing scenarios, but they werent so tricky as long as you are familiar with the basic ethical concerns.

Overall, I got the impression that the med students there were very down to earth and friendly. If you like the big city life, then Galveston may be boring to you. Thats probably the biggest thing that some people dont like.

One thing you have to watch out for is that the campus is spread out and your interviews may be in buildings across the campus. They give you 15 minutes to get from one interview to the next. During the first interview, you might want to keep an eye on your watch to make sure you dont go over too much.

Alot of the interviewers will walk you to your next destination and hand you off to the next interviewer if the 1st interview runs over.

PM or email me if you have other questions. Good luck.

BAYLOR21: WOW! I CAN'T THANK YOU ENOUGH FOR THAT WONDERFULLY INFORMATIVE POST! Are you sure you are not a god? 😉

I'm sure you breezed through the interview wonderfully. Good luck to you as well and thanks again.

quick question...how come u site elijah mohammad so much?

curious.....I doubt that ur a muslim? just out of curiosity....because he is regarded by some muslims as even being fanatical......so I'm kind of confused....?

it's kind of like citing adolf hitler....why cite a racist? and his views arent anything islamic!!! kind of louis farakhan.....

by the way, there is this whole conspiracy story that he was behind malcom X's assassination. Since malcom was gaining too much power...

my point is...his kind of a controversial figure.....

Watchamacallit: I also asked a similar question a couple months ago. I refer you to the discussion on
<A HREF="http://www.studentdoctor.net/cgi-bin/ubbcgi/ultimatebb.cgi?ubb=get_topic&f=1&t=002129" TARGET=_blank>
this page</A>.

Baylor's latter explanation on that thread should answer your question. Refer to the off-tangent discussion that Baylor, wyldstyle2000 and I are having there and Baylor explains why he/she chose that quote. It's quite interesting really. Hope that clears any misconceptions up for you. 🙂

Somewhat odd to me why my quote seems to generate so much interest. I havent heard any other quotes brought up on this forum 😉

I think that says something about the quote itself. Its a powerful statement, but also has an element of controversy to it.

Thats a big reason why I chose it in the first place. This is a quote that cant necessarily be taken at face value. Its complex and is not just some trite comment.

I'm not a particular admirer of Elijah Mohammed, but I think there is some truth to his statement. On the same token however, there could be a debate over it. I didnt choose this quote because I'm a follower of Islam, the Nation of Islam, or because I think Mohammed was some sort of visionary, magnificent leader.

Praying4MD, by the way I am male. Matter of fact I just proposed to my girlfriend while on the beach at Galveston after my UTMB interviews (she said yes) 😀

😱 AAWWW! How romantic! CONGRATULATIONS! At least you've got one acceptance in the bag already. Mind you, it's the most important one of all! You must be on such a high right now. You just bought out my feminine side and I think I'm going to cry! I'm such a girlie chick, such a sap. I'm so ashamed of myself now. 🙄 🙂 Anyway, I hope you and your wife-to-be (sounds nice, doesn't it?) have a long and happy marriage.
