I'n confused - pdfs and powerpoint presentations are very different file types. Did you want to edit both kinds of files?

If you want to edit pdfs and don't want to pay $$$ for Adobe, try this link:

If you want to open/create powerpoint presentations without paying $$$ for Microsoft, try OpenOffice v.3. I didn't really like OpenOffice before, but version 3 is good enough that I was finally able to uninstall Microsoft office recently.

This program is the best free one I could find, and it really does the trick. lets you save in standard Pdf format, so you can view your annotations, etc later on in acrobat.
