Do you ever find dentistry to be boring? Also what's this whole suicide thing? And what are the worst parts of the profession? If you were to do it again would you? What are the best parts of the job?

Also when I ask people when have they seen a dentist recently they usually haven't and have not had much dental work. How can dentists make money if there are so many of these people? Is it just that they let their teeth rot so bad they eventually get old and then need a ton of dental work?

I am deciding if this is the career for me and any good responses will be appreciated.

I would think that the reverse income of someones philanthropy would make sense as to how the numbers add up. If you look at the education level and the PDF's that ADA hands out, it will show a correlation with the monetary gains in the world as a Dentist. Not only will it show that, but it will also show the future of Dental Health as stated by the AMA which is a huge governing board towards the future of Dental politics. That being said, I do urge you to look into these governing facts and proceed with caution into the dental healthcare realm.

😕

Maybe I'm not smart enough, but this statement doesn't make any sense to me...

AMA? reverse income?

What the?

Dentistry is very interesting...so many ppl dont have dental work done...perfect for you...if u study hard and get into dental school u will be an orthodontist and u can make around 2 million dollars a year...u will not commit suicide...all the chicks will come running to u (one of the best parts of job along with the 2 million dollars)

:laugh::laugh:

NOBODY SHOULD ANSWER A TROLL LIKE THIS...WE'VE BEEN GETTING A LOT OF TROLLS LIKE THIS ON SDN LATELY..TROLLS WANTING/THINKING THAT DENTISTRY IS SOME SORT OF "EASY WAY" TO SUCCESS...they are in for a RUDE awakening 😱

Harsh words. I think the OP is sincere.

I'd like to hear more regardless of if OP is a troll. I would especially appreciate any feedback from recent grads.

Do you ever find dentistry to be boring?
Short answer, no. Long answer, anything can be boring if you want it to be, anything can be fascinating if you want it to be. There are so many things that you can pursue that you have to work at it for it to be boring.

Also what's this whole suicide thing?
Apparently some snapshot of one statistic in one year a while ago? No idea, all the dentists I know are happy as larks.

And what are the worst parts of the profession?
Dealing with problem patients, dealing with ethical problems, uphill battle dealing with access to care...

If you were to do it again would you?
Yes

What are the best parts of the job?
Fulfillment, treatment of disease, giving people an amazing smile (smiles = important to function, aesthetics, psychological health, emotional health, etc.)

Also when I ask people when have they seen a dentist recently they usually haven't and have not had much dental work. How can dentists make money if there are so many of these people?
No shortage of work that needs to be done, you're just talking to the wrong demographic.

Is it just that they let their teeth rot so bad they eventually get old and then need a ton of dental work?
Could be the case. People often put dental problems on the backburner because they don't think it's as important as other physical health.
