I've seen a couple posts where people talk about how they have "really good letters." I'm just curious as to what they mean by that/what is considered "good."

Does "good" mean that the student believes the evaluator will clearly state "I strongly recommend BLAH for dental school" or does it go beyond that?

I'm asking because I know my recommenders will write favorable letters but I doubt all of them will say I'm their favorite student or anything like that. I've interacted with them to a certain extent and have performed well in class, but I wouldn't say I'm best friends with the science professors writing my letters.

I think it means the profs know you well on a personal level. They can not only talk about your grade, but your personalities, how you deal with stress when midterms come around, how you dont mind going to office hour for extra questions, bla bla bla..

The profs that wrote me letter know me well enough that they dont even need addtional resume or anything else.

A good letter of rec usually says good things about you and explains why you would be good dentist. It's a good thing to have.

Anything that is more than the generic "he got an A in my class". Especially stuff where they can list specific examples. "He went above and beyond on such and such project by doing X, Y, and Z".

One that doesn't say "little Timmy received an A in my course."

One that speaks to your personality and work ethic as a student , in addition to your academic success
