I'm filling out my GME-1 form, and I'm a little confused about the timeline. A few quick questions, if someone has the time:

1) Is step 2 CS something I need to finish before the match, or just before I graduate?

2) What is the latest I can submit new component to my ERAS application (i.e. when is the latest I can get LORs?). It says I need to submit an ERAS by September 15th, is that the last day I make any changes to ERAS or just the date I submit the first draft?

3) Just to confirm: The actual decision is made immediately after Thanksgiving, correct?

I can already tell this is the beginning of much anxiety.

1)Yes, you must have the scores uploaded by 1Nov
2)The last day you can submit stuff is Sep 16th, the Deans letter needs to be there by Nov 1
3)Yes, the decision is made around Thanksgiving with results coming out Mid December.


Also, very important. You need to file your initial application by the end of this month. You can still make changes to it up till September, but start the application NOW!

Thank you, that was extremely helpful. I guess I'll be taking both CS and CK next month. Also I already emailed out the initial application. Out of curiosity if you miss that deadline do you lose your chance to give preferences for the match?

Also:

1) My Sub-Is (1 civilian, 2 military) are in September, October, and Novermber. I was relying on them for at least one of my LORs. Is there any way to submit an LOR after September 16th or am I stuck going back to my attendings from my Peds Cores?

2) Do LORs matter that much in the military? I mean I'm going to have rotated with each of the programs I'm apply to before they need to make a decision about me, after that how much can a character reference really add?

3) I have some research, as well as a case study, which I'm hoping to have accepted for publication by November. There is no chance it will be done by the 16th of September. Is there any way to make the military aware of this if it gets done before Nov 1? I guess I can put down 'in progress' on my CV, but does that really mean anything to anyone?
