Sorry if this is obvious to everyone already! I'm new to AACOMAS and I've never heard of Interfolio. Do we have to open an account or can we send letter requests through AACOMAS? Thanks in advance for clearing this up!

Interfolio does require you to make an account and a fee to send submitted LoRs. However it is easier on your letter writers as all they need to do is click a link on an e-mail and upload a file. Interfolio will also store all the collected letters for you.

I used AACOMAS and it was fine...

Interfolio is awesome. Why are people freaking out?

I pay Interfolio $15 a year to keep all my important documents (including confidential letters of recommendation) stored safely so that I have them when I need them. My transcripts and nursing licenses and other documents that are handy to keep track of across various states and years are all in one place. I'm sure that there are other ways to handle all that, but I find that they provide a very useful service for very little expense.

OP is referring to the recent difficulty of submitting letters through interfolio due to new supplemental questions on AACOMAS. This issue has since been resolved.

Sweet. Thanks for the clarification. I was a little worried that something was up with Interfolio itself, like maybe they were being sold or something. I was googling wildly to find out what there was to freak out about.

Yeah, I'm a little neurotic, but it wouldn't be the first time that something like that happened to an online data repository that I've used, so I have a low threshhold for anxiety about it.

Interfolio is one of the letter delivery service you can use to transmit your letters of recommendation to AACOMAS and/or AMCAS. There are other letter delivery service such as VirtualEvals but from my experience and consensus on SDN, Interfolio seems to be more user-friendly. I also like Interfolio because those letters are stored in the event you need to reapply to medical schools. And how it works is, basically you send your writer a request via Interfolio and your writer can either upload their letter directly to the site or alternatively, you can print out a cover page that gives them instructions exactly how to mail their letters to AACOMAS.

People needing to use the service, including myself, have been worried over the past week because Interfolio was unable to accept letters from applicants for AACOMAS applications. And yes, I think you can have your writers directly upload their letters to AACOMAS.

Hopefully this helps!
