What is Math section on DAT like?

This forum made possible through the generous support of SDN members, donors, and sponsors. Thank you.
its mostly word problems, most of it is where you read a word-problem, and convert it into an algebraic expression or trigonometry function.

I think 5 (or 10 ~ forgot) of the problems are stats, applying satistical analysis to answer questions.

The section is kind of like when you take to long to answer the first half of the questions and run out of time and get a sub-par score on QR. Oh wait, that's just how it was for ME. Get the Destroyer, I wish I would have.

By the by, there is no calculus.

agreed, it sucks. You have already been racking your brain for 3.5 hours or so and then have to do math, it's terrible. It was one of those where I tried to get the problems then began to run out of time and had to guess (plus I suck at math). I did terrible on the QR, got a very low score. I was told by adcoms that it was low, but they usually don't take into account the QR unless your gen chem is low (luckily mine wasn't). But it also depends on the school. I would definitely buy something to help you practice it.

Practice full length exams several times to increase your mental endurance. You may score great on the math practice exams, but on exam day, it will be your endurance that plays the biggest factor.
For example, I would score ~25 on the math section of Crack the DAT, while my brother would score ~18 or below. I didn't do many full length exams while my bother did tons. In the end, I scored an 18 and my brother scored a 19 on that section. It really felt like my brain melted because I didn't have the endurance.
Good luck

It was terrible. I relied on using the gimmick of a computer calculator which would freeze and not reference clicks therefore delaying multiple problems.

Is the computer calculator just the default calculator that comes with all windows computers?

The electronic calc on the screen is the most ghetto version of a calculator on the computer, and the most basic calculator.

It's pretty basic stuff. I would have done way better if I had bothered memorizing a few trig identities.

this was my basic impression. if you're good at math it will be easy, i only got a 19 but didn't study it at all. spending 2 hours studying trig would've been a really good idea.

if you are not so strong at math, it can be pretty tricky, but most schools don't care much about it. 16+ is generally okay so long as your other scores are good.

Same here. I did 2 practice exams about 3 months before I took the test and that was it. 10 minutes looking at my old flash cards of trig identities probably would have got me another 3 or 4 points.
If you aren't good at math spend some time getting to know how to do some of the simple word problems, but I honestly believe that math is the hardest section to improve your score in if you're not math literate. If you're limited on time the chemistries are easier to get a point bump in. They're what made my score.

Have you seen "Get Him to the Greek"?

Imagine that scene where Jonah Hill takes a hit of "Jeffrey." That is how you will feel when you get to the QR section :scared:

Except there are no furry walls at the testing center. Trust me. I checked. 😱

Is it mostly Algebra? Calculus?
Calculus is not on the DAT.

Algebra (equations and expressions, inequalities, exponential notation, absolute value, ratios and proportions, and graphical analysis); Numerical calculations (fractions and decimals, percentages, approximations, and scientific notation); Conversions (temperature, time, weight, and distance); Probability and Statistics; Geometry; and Trigonometry.
You will be given a calculator during the Quantitative reasoning test, it can only perform basic computational procedures.
