Can someone (competent, please) tell me what is more difficult to get in preliminary or cath surgery?

1.According to other forum..... some people say that preliminary is more difficult because people who want to get ENT, neuro, etc apply for it and no way get one.

2.Others say that cathegorical is more difficult since it is complete 5-7 years training?

so what is the truth?????????????/
3. Please also tell me....Is it again difficult to get PGY2 after preliminary surgery internship???
thanks

getting a categorical spot is more competitive, but general surgery as a whole is not as competitive as it once was. Nonetheless, a cat. GS spot at a top program will be very difficult to get.

Prelim. spots are very easy to get. Most spots are taken by IMGs. The exception is at certain programs where the prelim. spots are reserved for interns who will be entering the subspecialties like ortho, ENT, uro, neuro.

is it still difficult t find PGY2 after preliminary surgery???
