hey guys,

so it's about a month before my exam. At this point I've reviewed everything and I know most of the biology. However, I'm starting to slightly forget it.....what's the best way of keeping it in my head the next month? Practice passages every day? Reviewing certain chapters on particular days?

What worked best for everyone?

No joke, I wrote out notes of anything I did not know 100% chapter by chapter, and I reviewed them constantly, drawing things out if necessary, and using tons of color if it helps. I reviewed them AT LEAST every time I did a set of practice problems from that chapter and either before or after the problems depending on whether I wanted to test my long-term or short-term memory/application skills. After having done this during the initial content review, I never needed to refer back to my books for info, because it was usually my notes.

These days I've just been rapidly skimming EK Bio at night (I'll do 3-5 chapters at a time), and/or heading over to mcat-review.org and reading their condensed info over several times.

I still tend to forget things like hormones, or less practiced stuff like anything involving fungi.

Make a concept map for each chapter.

Keep doing practice passages and make note of anything that gives you issue. Content review is just the beginning. Content review gets you 6-8 on each section. Practicing passages is where you hone your skills. I liken it to my sport cycling. Content review is like learning how to properly ride your bike and all the proper form that comes with it when trying to competitively compete in any endurance sport. But if you enter a race with just the knowledge, your going to get blown off the back in the first 15 minutes. It's the training that applies that knowledge that prepares you for the race. You have to work on applying what you know in a knee jerk reaction fashion.

Keep at it. Don't stop practicing passages. Be encouraged that the knowledge is there. You just have to connect the dots!
