What is the point of applying to t20s if its close to impossible without x factor?

I took it to be a joke; if you are mentioned by numerous news outlets, you may be a person in interest in a police investigation.

Of course, there are people who get significant media attention for doing a remarkable good deed, being involved with athletic competition, surviving a disaster, etc. For the most part, the activity that prompted the news stories (volunteerism, athletics, etc) is likely the activity to be written up and tagged.

Sometimes when someone is featured on multiple news outlets it's because the police are looking for them and want to ask them questions. They occasionally call that person "a person of interest." Obviously, the police are not looking for you which, in theory, makes my reply to your question funny. I apologize if you thought I was being serious when I was just trying to add some levity into this otherwise frustrating application process.

That you need to stop being so neurotic. You have genuinely top-tier ECs and solid stats that should mean that you are towards the stronger side of pack fodder at top 20 schools. If you are this neurotic at interviews you'll blow it. You are Harvard material. Or Stanford, if you don't like Boston. LizzyM would probably give you an interview at her stratospheric Stanford-tier school. Fix your imposter syndrome and practice interviewing.
