My stats are: sgpa ~3.3(but with independent studies in bio and one course from abroad, which I confirmed with my advisor that it will be calculated in), ogpa ~3.47. from one of the top 15 liberal arts colleges. I have not yet taken DAT.

Some have told me that my gpa doesn't stand a chance. I am aware that it is below average. But looking at stats for different schools, I see that schools like tufts or UNE has averages that are even lower than mine. So I am confused whether they are just people who feel better about dissing others or are truly trying to advise me?

Thanks in advance for your help!

5 interviews and 3 acceptances with a 3.0 sGPA/cGPA here. Score high on the DAT and cast a wide net. You never know what can happen.

Your GPA is below average, but it is by no means terrible. It is above the average of matriculating students at some private schools - look at the ADEA guide to determine where you stand the best chance.

Your application is much more than just your GPA. First off, you can balance your GPA with an above-average DAT score. Apply broadly and intelligently and I'm sure you will get some interviews. Secondly, there are many more aspects to your application than just your GPA. Volunteering, ECs, personal statement, etc.

You definitely stand a chance (depending on DAT and other factors) at various schools. Your friend is ill-advised.

The GPA is below average but not lethal. Like others have said, there is more to an application than just the GPA (shadowing, volunteering, DAT, research). Just make sure you do well on the DAT.

I think your GPA is not bad, I would apply and give it a shot. Just kill the DAT and you got a chance 🙂

Whoever told you that "your GPA doesn't stand a chance" is grossly misinformed. You can look up the GPA ranges for the accepted applicants for most schools (check the school website, or the official ADEA guide to dental schools for this information) and see that yours is just fine for most of them. As long as the rest of your application is strong, you will be a good applicant.
