I just wanted to get people's opinion on going to a new unaccredited school. I just heard about the Hawaii school last year and I’m getting worried. I got into Charleston and I’m debating on deferring a year to see how the school turns out and reapplying. Maybe I’ll get lucky and get into an accredited school next year.

It is really tough to say what to choose. If you feel that there are fewer chances that you can get into any other schools, you should take that risk. However, I had many friends that attended Hawaii, and they really took it hard. Deferring it may be a good idea, but what would you do to improve yourself during the year? You may want to consider applying to some other schools that are newly opened but linked to an established university. One such school that just got accredited was UCSD. It was a safe bet for those student to go through the program only for the fact that the UC system of schools have been around for several decades.

The school at charleston is at an already accredited university. HI was a private school, separate from any other school...but their major problem was that they didn't even attempt to go to ACPE until after they had a class running for a year.

As Charleston has been working with ACPE before they even have their first class then you have very little to worry about. The individuals running the show...at least Dean and Head of BPS are formerly from Shenandoah University COP.

EVERY school that I am aware of who has worked with ACPE from the start has ended up being accredited.

im going to charleston and im not worried....the administration really seems to have everything together and im fully confident in the staff, faculty and curriculum. The faculty seem well-rounded and to be pioneers in their field (the dean) and they have made great preparations that i know without a doubt that they will be fully accredited. They are using pharmcas next year and according to their page, it says that don't honor requests for defferment.

One of the risks associated with attending a non-accredited school is that in order to take the boards, you need to have graduated from an accredited school. Schools are accredited once they graduate their first class. Like others have said, if the school has been communicating with ACPE from the beginning, then their shouldn't be anything to worry about. Best of luck with your decision.

As long as it isn't HICP, you're fine. Though I must say the new Charleston school irks me. WV doesn't NEED another pharmacy school and it will only act to drive wages down in the state. Yet ANOTHER reason to leave Dodge once I graduate from MoTown. Texas, Florida, or Tennessee...?

I thought once a school had candidate status (not fully accredited) that the students could sit for their boards just as someone who was from an accredited school. And that the school doesn't get "fully" accredited until the results from the board exam are available. Maybe Im wrong 😕

So then going to charleston ( or any start up school) should not be a problem one would think. As long as they get precanditade then I dont see a problem. why waste a year?

Is anyone nervous about the ACPE meeting this weekend? They will be
deciding precandidate status for Pacific, South Carolina, and Findlay, if am reading correctly. Any students from these schools have any comments on the meetings?

Re HICP. Anyone interested in follow-up? Monroe and Criswell moved to Louisville, KY. They are apparently living very well - Monroe's home is in the wealthiest zip code in USA. (Ky has the wealthiest and the poorest US zipcodes). Criswell's son goes to Louisville Collegiate School - very expensive. The corporation they registered with the Ky Secretary of State in January of 2005 is inactive (Pacific Blue Foundation, Inc). Hasan followed them and moved to Louisville too! (Honest) He is a professor at a Catholic University there. (Spalding University) Courts in Hawaii apparently decided not to pursue assets on mainland, but that's apparently where they (the assets) all ended up. The story of HICP would make a good book.

Pacific already has their pre-candidate status. They are up for candidate status. And once a school has that, graduating students from there are pretty much good to go.

I emailed ACPE regarding their meeting this past weekend and all they said was they are in the process of notifying all the schools of their decision as we speak. On or after July 15 (not sure why this date), under the "news" section of the ACPE website, they will list all the new info from that meeting including their results.

However, word from Pacific students is their onsite visit went very well and ACPE was pleased with everything they saw. But we'll just have to wait on the official word. I am very confident. Well, since I'm about to move to Oregon, I better be.

Yeah, it's pretty obvious you should go to Texas, the coolest state ever.

ps. I like your blog. You're like a baby drugmonkey/angry pharmacist. I hope you like scotch.
