I'm applying with nine Fs, thank you very much 🙂 (nonacademic reasons, suitably explained). Thus far: pre-secondary interview at Pitt, interview at Louisville, and passed the secondary screen at Wake Forest. (Rejected from Vanderbilt, but there ain't no shame in that.). Still waiting on the rest.

you are kidding..right?

and if not you must have amazing everything else..congrats!!

So I am putting my $ on Mr. WI being some snotty rich kid from Marquette who thinks he's got the world by the balls. A bit too much angst left over from his teenage years due to all that acne. Little does he know, the world is full of intelligent people, many who don't have his same personality flaws. He does find competiton from other intellectuals (who of course are below him) terribly annoying and if he acknowledges their abilities it harms his self image and ego, which constantly needs feeding. Poor poor Mike, there is little hope for a young child like this. We can only pray that he does not snap after purchasing a newly legalized automatic weapon.

PS I have nothing against Marquette U.

2 B's in really easy classes....I just didn't go to class b/c I thought the classes were ******ed and I ended up with B's b/c of the attendance policy.
that's why you need a budy who will always sign you in when you're absent. That's what I did in my bio II class.

The OP appeared to be a troll because s/he came in and started making sweeping, judgemental statements about other people's academic performance. Also having '2b' in one's handle is never a good sign.

To put into perspective how ridiculous it is to say that having more than two B grades "sucks," remember that you could receive 25% Bs during your undergrad career and still have a GPA equal to that of accepted applicants at most top schools.

1 frickin C in spanish2 the summer I spent WAY too many days at "la-frickin-playa"

1 B, 2 B+s, the rest As. But what one C does to your cume is un-frickin-believable.

But, ya trending is what counts.

Ock

man, you really need to take a stroll on over to the "Official Low GPA thread." You'll find a lot worse then that. If you keep your eyes open you'll find people who have failed the first two years of undergrad, did some post-bacc or grad work and managed to land a number of acceptances.

Seriously. I had two years of As and Bs. Then bad stuff (long story) happened to me; I had a year of incompletes that turned into Fs when I didn't complete them; I transferred, got two more Is that turned into Fs, dropped out the following semester (straight Ws), took a year off ... since I reenrolled last summer, my GPA has been 3.92. Overall GPA 3.02, BCPM 4.0, MCAT 40S.

so yes, my friend, it can be done 🙂 and thanks for the congratulations!

here here. i was a double major in anthropology and chemistry. anthro was a 3.8 chemistry was a 2.8. urggghhh...retaking some things now, physics, etc. i don't ever know if i'll be able to make up for calculus III though, first time got an F, retook it in undergrad and got a D. yep, slapped me and called me ho. that's why i'm going to be applying to both med school and post bacc at the same time.

😎

First semester of University was rough for me....F in Calc. I and had to withdraw from Org I. Took Calc. again and got an A. Got a B- in Org. I the second time around and a B+ in Org. II.
The rest of my grades were A's and B's...probably equal numbers...though most of the B's were B+'s.

Don't be too anal people. For some schools, GPA might be the end all and be all, for other school's it won't. For me, I don't know. I only applied to four schools, got two interviews, and withdrew my application from the second school when I got accepted to my first choice. I had a good MCAT and really good EC's and hopefully seemed like a nice and interesting person in my interviews, but who the heck knows. Don't agonize over small details like a certain grade in a certain class. How many times do you have to hear it people...it is the entire picture that counts once you get past the immediate will they even look at you with your GPA and MCAT.

B+s: Calc 1 and 3; Poli Sci
Bs: Gen Chem 1, 2, and 3; Calc 2; French; Physics 1
B-s: Orgo 2 (surrounded by As in Orgo 1 and 3 -- don't really know what happened there).

But I have a good trend (3.0, 3.6, 3.9)... and 3 14s on the MCAT, so hopefully they won't throw me out.

You people are nuts. Did you all seriously finish at the top of the class pretty much every time you went up to bat? I remember being in intro classes with 150 people where there were only 6 As. Same thing in my English and science classes. Only like 15% As.

Whatever. My lowest grade was a B, but I had more than a few of them.

Physics II, Orgo I, Physiology of Behavior, Psychobiology & Cognition, Advanced Calc II...

More B+s and far more A-s.

D in english 101...retook and got an A.

teacher was a turkish feminist that couldn't speak english. 🙄

you would think they could get a teacher who spoke English to teach an englih course...i guess that assignment was an effort to fuflill their diversity requirements 🙄

First semester was nothing but W's and two F's because I guess I just wasn't ready to take college seriously yet -- didn't have a clear goal in mind. Right now I'm retaking the two courses that I failed (for not showing up/and not withdrawing) and so far everything has been great, nothing but A's from all my classes. I'm supposedly going through a lot of stress now because I was mugged (and we're talking butt-kicked hard) about a month ago. So now I'm trying my hardest and just smiling with a nice big toothless grin!

i guess med schools ar epretty forgiving about this stuff; i thought once you screwed up you were doomed; maybe i wouldn't have put so much pressure on myself when i went thru some really bad times. it was hell then but i guess now i'm glad i did what i had to, to get thru it all.

Annandale, VA, was walking home from work at 11pm (can't drive) and was mugged by seven a-holes.

uh yeah, got an F and 2 D's 🙂 One D in Quant Chem, other two in econ classes. Damn prof failed me on attendance my SPRING SEMESTER SENIOR YEAR. Bastard.

7 Fs, 1 D, 1 C-, 2 Cs...

Some of you guys need to relax. B's and C's are not the end of the world. Being a good Dr. entails a lot more than being able to abuse yourself into doing nothing but studying and having no life for a letter on a piece of paper. If your grades are not the greatest make up for it by proving that you are a whole person and having a lot of experience and volunteer work.

no way!!?? what's your GPA?

3.4, 3.43 science

double major w/ lots of units, so my terrible grades were diluted

C in Gen Chem II
C in Calculus

Actually, I'm pretty darn proud of those grades. Those were during freshman year, and from what I remember, I was drunk 6-7 nights a week. I made a lot of B's as well. However, I made 4.0 & 3.97 my junior and senior years. It's amazing how much my grades went up after I stopped drinking during the week. Go figure.

Post Bacc's help adcoms to be quite forgiving. I graduated with a whoping 2.7 BCPM gpa from undergrad. No excuse, just poor study habits. After making A's in my post bacc courses, none of my interviewers have even mentioned it.

Keep faith all ye with low GPA's, if needed, they can be improved.

Hopkins class of 2009 (How? Your guess is as good as mine.)

Yay, econ. I took micro during my last quarter of undergrad for a GE requirement; I'm proud to say that I got the lowest passing score out of nearly 300 people in that wretched class. No wasted effort 🙂

Good thing it was pass/fail though...

I got 4 C's in undergrad. I was a littler nervous that they were going to bring it up at my interview. When it came time to mention grades, my interviewer said "I see that all your C's were in chemical engineering courses. I would never have done well in chemical engineering, so we're not even going to go there." Made me feel much better immediately! 😀

You guys who are worried about a few B's - lighten up and learn to live a little. 🙂

I got 4 A's, 4 C's and 4 F's in my Engineering degree because of personal reasons causing me to miss exams and finals throughout my first year of school before I decided I wanted to be a doctor=2.0 gpa

I transferred to a new school to start fresh and I finshed a Biology degree in only two years with a 4.0gpa...I hope they like my sudden revelation to become successful

I can't believe I am competing to have the worst grades here! Ha!

I got a C- in second semester Number Theory during my senior year. I practically had to beg for it, very bizarre since I'm normally trying to squeeze over the boundary to an A, not to a C-. Since it was a required course for my Computer Science major, I needed to pass it to graduate. To this day - I still don't understand Poisson's Theory, which is (as it was presented in class) a way to predict how many chocolate chips appear in a chocolate chip cookie, or how many leaves fall off a tree at any moment in time. I just couldn't wrap my mind around it properly.

I have 3 interviews so far though as a first time August MCAT-er, so I'm hoping I'm in the clear. I'm also hoping they won't hold me responsible for the one area of academics I never quite "got". If they do, I'll ask them to explain the Poisson Theory to me instead.

For those worried about bad grades, I had my share, including a 2.1 one semester (with no decent excuse except lack of interest/motivation). I had a significant upward trend, including post-bacc work several years after I graduated from college.

I was accepted to a great program last week, and I have been invited to several other interviews. One interviewer said she regarded it as an asset that I had already experienced failure (i.e. an F, D, and two W's) and was able to get back on my feet, since some people don't know what to do when they get to med school and aren't the academic rock stars they were in undergrad.

Good luck everyone!

B- in Genetics Lab and also Intro. Chemistry II
Hopefully it won't hurt me too much
Does AMCAS look at +/-?

B- in my first general chem. course.

i got a 1.4 in general chem and 1.7 in calculus. yes 1.4 and 1.7 on a 4.0 scale.

😀

I hate this thread:
B's suck / ur a loser / You got an F, don't even bother applying to med school / I have a 4.0, I might get a B this semester, will I still have a shot / Your mom said I was fat

B- in Advanced Theoretical Calculus my freshman year. Sucks.

But I figure that if you never try anything where you can fail then whats the point. (I learned more about education, life and the world by working my butt off in that class then I ever did in organic chemistry).

C- in Darwinian Theory. Who cares about survival of fittest? 😛

I took home a C in Gen Chem II. Damn that limiting reagent (I got my age at the time as a % for the test grade)...After studying for the MCAT I had no idea it was such an easy concept. rahhhhhh.

Can I ask what post-bacc you did?

So, for all of you out there who got low grades, who among you offered explanations on the primary applications? It seems like most of you have explanations to offer, so did you include them with the first app, or did you wait until the interview?

C+ in 2nd semester G-Chem
C+ in Neurobiology

D in Botany, D in Calculus 2

C in astronomy. I was at a job interview and the lady looked at my marks and said "Not going to work for NASA anytime soon right?" 😳

LMAO !! I feel inferior compared to all you super duper academic beasts !
There are too many smart people on this forum and not enough avg or below avg students sharing their opinions.

B, physics III. God I hated that class, I can't even believe I passed. Congrats to all those folks in nuclear physics ! My hat goes off to all of you, and your superior intellect 😉 I'll stick with something less-challenging mentally 😀
