Student life in Touro has its ups and downs just like any other dental school. You will struggle, maybe cry a bit, but you will enjoy dental school because why else would you apply lol. The core science classes are taught by the New York Medical College professors separately, they come to our building to give lectures. Depending on the medical department (i.e. physiology), the professors are typically divided into two groups: nice/can't teach well or barely helpful outside of class/somewhat good at teaching. The dental faculty are critical/hard graders when it comes to pre-clinical, because Touro strives for strong clinical skills. Currently, we are finishing up amalgams and prosthodontics (RPD and full dentures). Any other class taught by dental faculty are straight forward and well prepared for board exams.
The environment of the school is welcoming I guess. We have town hall meetings, where the Dean, dental faculty, and students discuss events and any type of issues. Students help each other out when it comes to sharing lecture notes.
The culture of the school is Jewish, so we do have a lot of Jewish Holidays off. We don't fall behind compared to other dental schools, because during winter/spring breaks we have fewer days off. Just keep in mind that D1 starts in summer semester and D2 have summer semester off which is a very nice refresher/vacation opportunity.
