What is wrong with me?!

I know the title sounds desperate, but it is. I applied to several DO schools for 2006, assuming that I would do better on this last MCAT. However, I don't feel confident about the test. Here is the BIG problem, my first MCAT score was a 22. I got a 12 on verbal and 5's on the other two sections. How is this possible? I am at a loss. I did well in undergrad and did a post-bac class where I ranked 16th. Where am I going wrong? Any advice would be much appreciated, as I am stressing over all the money I just wasted on applying this year.

Have you considered or taken the prep courses? If you can get a VR score of 12, I don't see why you couldn't raise the rest of your score. I guess you need lots of practice by just taking those 2 sections on practice exams and/or attend a review course.

I would recommend buying Kaplans books to study for the science sections and taking AAMC practice tests. That's what I did and I felt that it gave me a very good feel for the material and the type of questions I would be asked. I got a 27 in April and I believe I did better in August, so I'd say it works. Good luck. 🙂

making a 12 in verbal is awesome! since verbal is considered the hardest part to learn, i think you have a good foundation for improving the score. i'd recommend shelling out the money for a kaplan or princeton review course just to go over the basics of what you need to know for the sciences section. also, all those mock exams are super helpful, and the courses keep you really disciplined with studying. i'm suspecting that your biggest stumbling block is psychological, so you can definitely do better with practice.
