When you have finished your residency, paid your loans off, have a decent practice, and finally have the money to get a real nice car. Realistically (ie not 100k+), what would you get?

I'll go first. Lotus Elise. I would probably pick a used one up and save 10-20k.

0-60 mph in 4.9 sec. Need I say more.

My dream car. Even if I had billions, I'd cruise around in this bad boy all the time.

Although I haven't decided yet if I like the new, longer, 4-door version.

but more realistically, not sure if il be affording one of those:

Fancy, fast cars are not my thing at all.

I'd rather spend that money on the family, taking nice vacations and learning about new cultures, seeing new places. Cars come and go, but family memories last forever.

I know. I'm such a downer.

Have you ever actually been in that Lotus? I have and it's as small as a Fisher Price Cozy Coupe. If you want that Ferrari, be prepared to spend several hundred thousand dollars and be on a waiting list for a few YEARS (if you want a new one). Additionally, you have no idea about the maintenance a Ferrari require or costs......believe me, it's staggering.

Kidsfeet really has the right idea. I understand and appreciate "fine automobiles", I drive one and Kidsfeet has been in the passenger seat of one of my cars. It's brand new and impressive, but means nothing.

In reality, his philosophy is much smarter, but I know it's always great to dream about great cars. But I guarantee that most of you when you can afford some of those cars will realize it's not a priority and will spend the money on something else or simply not take it out of the bank.

Yeah, cars are a money pit. We get it. But this is fun...

I'm not one to drop money on a fancy car, but i would spend it on this bad boy. My own personal backcountry machine...

Probably. But, ya, this is fun for right now!!

Here is another one that I would love...

Some of my favorite family memories were on our boat. I need a suburban for my large family, already have 3 kids and growing. Boats are great because it is my toy and my family share in my enjoyment.

This isnt the best video... there is a better one out there but im in a hurry. Ive always been fond of this creation.

AWD for the winter months and parts from every other Audi vehicle so the maintenance costs won't be in the super car territory.

My dream car can be had for a little over $30K to be truthful.

It's a Shelby Cobra Replica which can be bought in kit form and be built by hand in your own garage. At about $34K, you can have a beautiful little roadster that looks like a vintage dream, and also has some of the more modern amenities like power steering, smooth suspension and a bluetooth enable stereo system.

How about building that kind of thing with your kids as a "family" project. They can then actually drive it after it's done. THAT'S a dream come true for me!

REALISTICALLY, this bad boy ... Cadillac CTS-V. Moves fast like a Corvette with that roomy, American-made Cadillac luxury and comfort. But Kidsfeet and PADPM make good points too ... travelling would be my first priority (and family if I had a wife and kids).

AGREED! Awesome car for a podiatrist to cruise in!

As I stated, Kidsfeet was in the passenger seat of one of my cars.....ask him if that picture (even the color) looks familiar....

I've actually had my eye on those cobra replicas as well. A couple of years ago I ordered the DVD and brochure from the website of Factory Five Racing. They do the cobras along with a few other cars. The other one that they do that has really caught my attention is the GTM supercar (0-60 in 3.0 sec). Check out the website. the cobra kit starts at 13k.

Can you be any more of a debbie downer? I posted a 370z and crotch rocket after for a reason. But in reality, if i had the extra money saved up over the years, i would get a ferrari. Been a dream car since i was a little kid.

This thing would be sweet. Plenty of room for me, dtrack, sorham and geauxT. dtrack's cat can even have her own seat.

No, I wasn't trying to be a "Debbid Downer", just realistic. Ferraris are the ultimate machine, I know that well. But the ability to afford to purchase one and actually maintain one are a world of difference.

I don't know of many who don't dream of a Ferrari. I hope someday you can afford the car AND the maintenance!

I would have pegged PADPM as more of an A8 kind of guy...with blacked out rims and windows

Ah, you've pegged me wrong. I prefer two doors and prefer white. I keep a large shoehorn in the car just to help people in and out. Actually, it's very comfortable and there's plenty of "room" (for me).

My philosophy is that if someone doesn't want to drive with me, he/she can take his/her own car. My kids are old enough that I don't need to drive around in a big SUV anymore, so I don't.

Even when they were younger, I thought that's what a roof rack was for...or was that just my parents?

I tried the roof rack thing, but the bungee cords kept leaving indentations on my kids that would take hours to resolve. Not to mention the amount of toothpaste it took to get the bugs off their teeth.😱

I rented one of these (not "V"... but it was 2dr) on a trip to Miami a couple weeks ago. Wow. If we can keep making these kind of cars, Det has comeback potential. (if you can't tell, I'm pretty biased towards American cars)

For me, my Grand Am will probably continue to be my chariot until it crumps (or I've made partner and paid off most of my loans). My wife needs the next new car more than I do right now. Eventually, I'd like a Caddy (XLR maybe, or CTS-V) and a Wrangler Rubicon. The Tesla Roadster is also a great, but they have a multi-year waitlist with the Hollywood celebs and Silicon Valley types. Having heritage from south Europe, of course a Ferrari is attractive toy to me, but back in reality, I could never justify the upkeep, insurance, etc when I have goals of a happy, well educated family and early travel, etc.

In all honesty, if it makes sense (based on our per-hour earnings, estimated use, etc), then I hope to eventually have a car service for business use by myself + partners. I'm getting sick of almost getting mowed down by texting teenagers, driving around in post-call delerium, etc. A driver lets you dictate, surf the net, etc while you commute in relative safety from office to office, surg center to center, etc.

I would have to go with a lifted wrangler. It is the car I currently have, but with gas prices as they are it will have to be put aside as a luxury vehicle.

Do you really drive an R8?

Ask Kidsfeet, he was in the passenger seat when I took him out to dinner and he also saw the car two weekends ago when he was in my area for some family matters. And yes, my car is also white. Read his prior post.

Have you seen the copper convertible that Audi has been displaying at the auto shows?

1) Although Maserati's as any Italian design are beautiful, they can be very tempermental and expensive to maintain.

2) I did not attend the car show this year and am not aware of the Audi you are describing. Is it a concept car or production car?

3) When I recently had my car in for service, I was looking at the new A7. It's beautiful. Similar to the A5 (and of course the R8), it has beautiful lines and curves and has broken the more conservative tradition of the A4, A6 and A8, though all those cars are excellent, and some say the new A8/A8L are the new standard that luxury cars should be measured against.

Dooooooooooood, you suck!!! LOL! I didn't know you were a fellow Audi guy. Can I come over can I sit in it too?! I had you pegged for Mercedes S-Class. I'm going to call you Dr. Iron Man from now on, mmmkay?

I might be leaving the brand for one of these though:

Construction is finishing up on my new office, which is just 0.4 miles from home, so really after we move in this week I can get by with just my sneakers and can't use the old "I want a nice AWD commuter for wintry days" excuse any more.

Check this out though: the wife suggested we become a one car household since we won't need two cars any more (her office is 0.5 miles away -- I win). I countered with, "Since we won't need two cars then maybe it's time to get that impractical RWD M3 I've been wanting." LOL!

R8, jeezus mio...

MERCEDES S CLASS??........you're lucky that you're not within hitting distance!! Apparently a lot of people on this site who thought they had me pegged were slightly wrong with their analysis.

I'll leave the S class and those old fart cars for my partners who like that stuff. I don't walk around with my polo shirt collar turned up either.

Good luck with the new office, a skateboard seems very practical as a way to get to work since it's that close!

Nissan Leaf anyone??

Yeah, Leaf me alone!!! As you can tell Kidsfeet is NOT into cars. When he rode in my car he could care less!!!!!! He just knew it was white, had two doors, was low to the ground and had 4 circles on the front of the hood. He kept asking if it came in a station wagon version:laugh:
