Hi all,

I was just wondering what people think their most impressive EC is.

Would being a published author of a nationally-syndicated book be impressive to adcoms (just wondering)?

I've delivered several babies--not under the supervision of an MD--Under my supervision and direction.

Yes it would be impressive but it wouldn't guarantee admittance.

During a summer from college I was fortunate to get a job in the hospital I work at known as a "heart holder"

My job was assisting with cardiac surgery in various ways mainly by holding the heart, and assisting with various things and tools such as sutures, forceps, and scissors.

I would say being an author of a nationally syndicated book would help. What is it on? I would imagine it would be really good if it was something health care related.

Wow, what's the book? That's pretty impressive, I wish I could write :-\

Hmm.. most impressive EC? What can I say legally? Let's just put it this way, I work for a neurosurgeon who's a big proponent of the "hands-on" approach to teaching.

But most impressive.. hmmm, one of my presentations went to an International Neurosurgical Conference in Japan, and at the end of the presentation there were a bunch of pictures of half-naked women, I heard that went over pretty well.

My laboratory work involved playing with one of the few proton beams in the world.

Does sex count as an EC though?

I volunteered at a hospital.

I got to wipe butts all day in the ER 🙂 and lovin it 🙂

Really though,

The best EC I have had is being MESA student coordinator for my school. I get to help pre meds all the time get there heads straight before going to the BIG UC....Plus I get alot of students who other wise wouldnt involved in outside activities such as volunteering 🙂

I auditioned for an a capella group but my voice cracked and I wasn't included in the call-backs.

i volunteered at my local hospital last semester as an orthopaedic surgeon, specializing in pre-natal. 😀

For 3 months I shot the crapper with a stroke patient who couldn't talk. The day she was leaving she finally was able to say my name.

Stanford or bust.

None of my EC's are terribly impressive, but I feel that I am well-rounded because I have many interests in addition to and outside of medicine.

On another note, Dr. Cynical, what's up with all of this "Stanford or bust" bull$h!t? Do you mean to say that if you don't get into Stanford, you're not going to medical school at all? That's absurd. But if that's what you choose to do, there's always a good job at McDonald's waiting for you! Say hi to Squat n Squeeze for me.

Dealing illicit substances and graverobbing are my top two EC's, and it also helps that they generate extra cash flow for me. I must say that interviewers are always impressed by my activities.
