What is your point of disagreement with the SDN hive mind?

Poor reading skills get more SDNers into trouble, both here and on test taking day.
1. You use it in virtually every argument as your trump card.

I'm from NY, and we use to term "F you" as a greeting, so I'm not sympathetic to the thin-skinned.
2. It's unnecessarily condescending, and injects unpleasantness into otherwise civil debates.

I, at least, admit it.
3. You yourself misread/misinterpret/misunderstand comments All. The. Time.

Did you read through the other thread at all? I'm hardly the only person who found his comment directly implied that it's okay to discriminate, as long as that minority is successful.

I feel like a lot of people in the Midwest take my personality and attitude as being bitchy or condescending....cant tell you the number of times I've had to be like "its not you, its me, this is how us new yorkers are"

Conversely, I couldn't tell you how many East Coasters don't understand that when someone from Minnesota tells you to "have a wonderful day!", this literally translates to "I hope you get run over by a car and that will make the world a better place."

I want things my way, I want them done when I want them done, and I want minimal to no excuses. Also, leave the whining at home and show up to work ready to work. My BS tolerance is pretty low, and I expect that if I get things done properly and in a timely fashion, that everyone who works for me will, as well. I think I'm a pretty understanding/tolerant person in general, I just dont accept nonsense or drama.

The only time you'll catch me somewhere like Minnesota is if I have to fly through MSP. Otherwise, no thank you.

You can do all of this without being an a-hole to other people. And don't just chalk it up to the "oh I'm from NY" excuse.

The Chicago accent is an endangered species. I hear more Sconnie accents (heavily stressed "long O" along with the high pitched "ah") when I'm there than the usual Chicago accent except in a few neighborhoods on the South Side.

Boston accents hit you like a dog whistle the moment you get within 100 miles of New England.

That's how Virginia works. I hate that that state made me dislike politeness 9/10 times. After growing up there, it takes the smallest hint of conversational discordance to switch the interpretation of 'have a nice day, sweetie' (a term I also dislike) from 'have a nice day' to 'god what a bitch, wanna talk about how ugly and stupid she is and also her mom is a hoe.'

Give me the good ol' Northeast where people at least give it to you straight.

I was all set to react to this, and had a whole post written up...and then I realized that this is effing insane. I've got plenty of things that people don't like about me and my posting, and I don't have people hijacking a thread to talk about it. This has gotten rather ridiculous. Goro has done and said so many wonderful and helpful things on this site, are we really going to get all up in arms over one admittedly off-putting comment that he throws around? It's not bigoted or inappropriate, just a bit unnecessary. I think we can all live with it and move on. He's been made aware that people dislike it more times than this, we're not going to get anywhere. Let's just get back to the point of this thread instead of turning it into an exercise in pissing off one of SDNs most active adcoms.

Minnesotans can be quite passive aggressive. The most straightforward people I know are all from Northern Ohio (the southern part gets really bible-belty). NY/NJers by comparison always seemed more about histrionics, blunt as they may be.

For me it's MA. I agree, NYers always seem a little 'how dare you interact with me' for no reason. Sometimes they don't even mind talking, they just seem as if they feel obligated to throw it in your face to start off. In Boston, half the people will tell you to eff off and the other half will be friendly, but it actually reflects whether they're in the mood to talk. Shocking, really.

Just kidding, I dgaf about baseball (other than comprising my lowest tier of 'sport' for a helpful comparison in classifying other activities as sports/nonsports) and I gave up on professional basketball ages ago, so I'm really just a Pats fan!

But the West? Here, people don't even bother to treat you with ANY attitude, because they are so wrapped up in themselves and their own wants and thoughts and emotions. Everyone is patting themselves on the back 95% of the time and walking around in a bubble with ZERO sense of anyone around them. The highway is a great example of this, too...know why there is traffic in the middle of the night, when fewer people are on the roads? Because they're selfish, narcissistic drivers. You come up behind someone in the fast lane on the East coast, and they get the hell out of your way. Here? They sit there, oblivious to the fact that there are 10 people behind them. The only way to drive quickly out here is to go in the slow lanes, because everyone here is too damn important to deal with people merging on and off the highway (which requires adjusting your speed for others), so they never ever drive in the slow lane even if they are going 10mph below the speed limit...
Meh, I've been to NYC, and you can at least annoy people on the subway. They have the decency to be annoyed at you. That's something :laugh: And at least the entire state of NY is not convinced that it is God's gift to the Americas. CA has its own border control, for crying out loud...against the other states!.

The big-haired ladies in Texas have this refined to an art form. They can smile sweetly at you, fulsomely compliment you, and stick the knife into your ribs at the same time.

Hey, I represent that remark about the cornfields (one is just around the corner from my house).

Not all of us just fell off the turnip truck. Sometimes we are glad the midwest is a flyover part of the USA. Keeps those coastal attitudes where they belong.

It translates roughly to you are literally the dumbest person on the face of the earth and I hope you die in a fire and coyotes eat your corpse.

I was mostly joking. As much fun as I make of the Midwest, I don't actually mind it that much. The serious lack of good restaurants and good shopping is what bugs me the most.

I've always wanted to see a turnip farm. Turnip trees? Turnip bushes? What do turnips grow on anyway?

Personally I like "Well.. bless your heart" = "The dumbest ****ing thing I've ever heard just came out of your mouth"
Having grown up in the south, it's sometimes nice to be living in the north where I can say these things without hurting peoples feelings.

Until you're sitting in traffic on the bqe & some jerk decides now is the time to Tokyo drift through traffic. Driving here sucks.

IL are the worst in the Midwest. Driving around every day in congested Chicago highways apparently caused them to never understand the concept of keeping right once they get to other states.
