I think the first posts I ever saw by gyngyn were in the women's interview clothing thread, though...just goes to show how easily you can be lead astray by the utter lack of context on forums!

The poorest interview choice I can think of to match that was this one girl who decided to complaint using hash words (to other interviewees) about the school's choice of interview format after the interview while she's sitting inside the admission office. (who had some minor outfit screwed up to begin with: flare style suit skirt to and a cotton pooka dot shirt), this is before Oct 15th at one of the finest medical schools in the country...I mentally face palmed so hard...

Oh god, so much cringe I can't even handle it. How do people not understand the idea behind formal interview attire. Being fashionable isn't hard. Join styleforum or something christ.

Not sure if this was said already, but it recently dawned on me that I can't stand how so many people say ECs in med school are pointless and should (mostly) be avoided because they aren't as important as the boards to residency programs. While most ECs probably won't help that much in terms of landing a residency (if at all), saying they're all worthless just goes against common sense.

I also think people fail to realize that a lot of ECs are there to enrich your personal experience, not just to land a residency spot. Everyone gets caught up in boards/rotations/the match that they forget most of us want to have some semblance of a life outside of medicine and not just be robots spouting pathologies and prescriptions. ECs should be there to help students gain a skill or enrich their own lives, if it helps land a residency spot then that's just an added bonus imo.

I love the people who claim research is their EC because they so enjoy their grunt position gathering data for Big Name PI. Like come on, you aren't fooling anyone. Come out for club sports or to D&D&booze nights or something not related to god damn academics and the premed game.

This is why I thank my lucky stars that I was not a premed when I was in undergrad. I still got the research, because I liked it, but I also got a lot of stuff that is slightly different than the stereotypical premed EC, but happens to check 'dem boxes...and I was passionate about it!
