I thought this would be interesting. It can only be one. It has to be the thing that you believe medical schools will be most impressed with, or can possible help strenghten you if other areas or your app is weak?

I'm a reserve Sheriff's deputy. All the fun of being a cop with none of the pay, but at least it looks impressive on an application.

Interesting! I have never heard of that before.

As for me, I participated doing outreach for the homeless community on the streets of Philadelphia. It really was an experience and I'd gladly do it again. I never thought I'd be able to befriend homeless people and some of them have fascinating stories to tell!

100% serious!!! original I tell ya. I donated to Mother's Milk Bank in Denver, Co.

paramedic (both paid & volunteer) for over 10 years. Over 8,000 hours of volunteering. No kidding. For almost three years I volunteered over 40 hours every week in addition to my full time job.

My gem is under hobbies I put "beer brewing." This was golden at so many interviews. 2nd best was "avid lichen collector."

Best one I've heard of was what one of the docs at my school listed under hobbies for the state medical society: rattlesnake hunter.

Aw! That's so nice of you! lol Plus, you'll have something really interesting to talk about at interviews!

cats, I ended up getting comments about my avatar with my kids (along the lines of "you never know what will happen to them" kind of stuff), so I put up this one of my husband at work instead. No comments since about my kids disappearing or getting hurt.

Well when I applied I was a registered Special Olympics Unified Partner in pairs figure skating. I competed in the Ohio Special Olympics with my pairs partner. We even got to skate at the 2000 National Figure Skating Championships Gala Exhibition of Champions which was shown on ABC sports....skating in front of 17,000 people was pretty darn cool

I cut out eyes for corneal transplants!

I didn't have a prized EC, but I did get questions about brewing, aurora watching and buying a house at age 19.
