what is your weakest point?

This forum made possible through the generous support of SDN members, donors, and sponsors. Thank you.
You should know your weakest points. And I don't think a generic answer will work as well as you looking at yourself and coming up with the answer.

But do no tell the interviewer that you are for example a big procrastinator or can be narrow minded, these faults even if true should be kept to yourself. I tell the interviewer that I can be to trusting sometimes to a fault.

My weakest point is that I have poor anger managment skills, but I've found something that works. When I get upset I just go to the pet store, buy a bunch of mice, and cut their heads off with scissors.

lucky for the mice, that if you do become a dentist, you could take your rage out on your patients rather than the mice.

How nice of you! 👍 with your good anger managment skills you'll do really well in dentistry which has the second highest suicide rates! :meanie: :meanie: :meanie: :meanie:

All joking aside, is that really true about the suicide rate? I've heard that before, but all the dentists that I know are really happy guys.

My regular doctor says that dentists have the highest rate of death by small plane accidents. 😛

One of hard question.
Anyone can give me an example?

I think the most important thing is to be honest. Everyone has weaknesses and the interviewers know that. However, not everyone is working to make their weakness a strength. What you should do is mention your weakness then immediately follow up with how you are overcoming that weakness.

For example (its not the best example, but I think it shows my point):

"I somtimes have a difficult time being 100% focused during lectures. However, I've seen a dramatic increase in my attention span and focus because I now choose to make sure I'm in bed by 10pm instead of trying to pull all nighters. I realized that how I manage my time has a lot to do with when I get to bed. Therefore, I purchased a planner so I could keep a steady pace for myself throughout the day leaving myself plenty of time for a good nights rest."

Medical doctors have high suicide rates too.

It's true and doesn't detract anything from my overall appeal as an applicant.

No, it isn't. It's also been discussed ad nauseum on this & the dental board. Do a search and you'll find plenty.

search button, where art thou?

Sorry, I should have realized that there'd be plenty of talk about that on this site. I bet it gets old reading the dumb threads over and over again.

I AM TOO LOUD AND MAY COME OFF AS COCKY AND OBNOXIOUS SOMETIMES!

But lets face it, I am the best.

Sorry that this is an old thread....is it okay to drag the antiques out again for some fresh words?

Anyway, I just wanted to add a suggestion that I've found helpful in interviews: When asked about the quality you most need improvement on (which some schools will ask), it's effective to say that sometimes your best qualities can also become your worst ones. It shows a richness of personality, and exhibits how you can have strengths and faults in all aspects of your life and are constantly working between the two.

Random examples: If your best quality is that you're proactive, motivated, and goal-oriented, your worst quality might be that you dominate relationships or conversations, aren't too spontaneous (i.e. you'd rather plan things out), or that you have trouble relaxing

If your best quality is that you have excellent interpersonal skills and are a great listener with lots of compassion and empathy, your worst habits might be that you are passive in conversations, you sometimes avoid conflict even if it's important, etc. etc.

I mean, if you're amazing at something it probably means that you're somewhat extreme about it. There's always a downside to it!! I've used this once or twice in interviews and feel like I got a positive response from it.
