Does anybody have the website where you answer a series of questions and it tells you what kind of specialty you would like go into. Thanks.

it's on the UVa med school site. you can probably hunt it down over there.

I dont know if I trust that thing, but it's interesting. Here's my results:

Rank Specialty Score
1 dermatology 49
2 med oncology 46
3 hematology 46
4 occupational med 46
5 general surgery 45
6 otolaryngology 45
7 orthopaedic surgery 45
8 ophthalmology 45
9 neurology 45
10 rheumatology 45

Pediatrics was #22 for me, and that's what I really would like to do.

I'm only 50 questions into the test, and already I've seen several questions come up more than once, or at least very similar questions.

Well at least the field I want to go into (ophthalmology) made the top 10.

Rank Specialty Score
1 dermatology 46
2 nuclear med 45
3 pediatrics 44
4 gastroenterology 44
5 rheumatology 43
6 ophthalmology 43

What kind of doctor will I be? Hopefully one that doesn't kill too many patients.

wow--mine was pretty dead on, but, then again, my answers were probably guided by my expectations.

1 otolaryngology 47
2 orthopaedic surgery 47
3 neurosurgery 47
4 pulmonology 47
5 pathology 46
6 general surgery 46
7 urology 45
8 rheumatology 45
9 neurology 45
10 cardiology 44

maybe its b/c you're going to UVa, and it only works for their students.

1 pathology 45
2 nuclear med 45
3 pulmonology 45
4 infectious disease 44
5 radiology 44
6 preventive med 43
7 occupational med 43
8 physical med & rehabilitation 43
9 hematology 43
10 nephrology 43

Interesting...

1 radiology 49
2 gastroenterology 48
3 emergency med 48
4 plastic surgery 47
5 thoracic surgery 46
6 dermatology 46
7 med oncology 46
8 allergy & immunology 45
9 urology 45
10 occupational med 45
11 orthopaedic surgery 45
12 ophthalmology 45
13 obstetrics/gynecology 45

I don't think this survey means much for those of us who aren't in medical school currently (radiology #1?!?!)... though it sounds like it's going to be a subspecialty for me (perhaps this was because I perceive myself as liking tangible results, doing procedures, making decisions, interacting closely with patients, and valuing my free time)... if these results hold true I better do well in medical school or I'm screwed

4 occupational med 44
5 nephrology 43

My specialty of choice was #3, but I think I was answering the questions with ob/gyn in mind  The questions definitely repeated themselves several times over.

Yikes, the top specialties for me according to this test don't sound like things I'd really enjoy...one of my interests, neurology, was #12, but psychiatry wasn't even on there...and ob/gyn was last on this list, although I think I might enjoy it...uh oh... :p

Rank Specialty Score
1 radiology 42
2 ophthalmology 42
3 gastroenterology 42
4 dermatology 41
5 plastic surgery 41
6 physical med & rehabilitation 40
7 endocrinology 40
8 rheumatology 40
9 pulmonology 39
10 allergy & immunology 39
11 pathology 39
12 neurology 39

Here is mine

1 hematology 44
2 allergy & immunology 43
3 radiology 43
4 psychiatry 43
5 pathology 43
6 nuclear med 43
7 neurology 42
8 rheumatology 42
9 physical med & rehabilitation 42
10 infectious disease 42
11 radiation oncology 41

I do have interest in radiology.

1 physical med & rehabilitation 43
2 rheumatology 43
3 hematology 43
4 dermatology 43
5 radiation oncology 42
6 general internal med 42
7 endocrinology 42
8 med oncology 42
9 radiology 42
10 psychiatry 41

I hadn't even considered many of these. Rheumatology could be interesting. I had been leaning towards primary care and general internal made #6. I've also been considering Gerontology, but that was nowhere on my list... is it even an option?
I'm not really sure what to make of this, but it seems like something to consider when choosing elective rounds. :)

1 general internal med 43
2 aerospace med 42
3 neurology 42
4 gastroenterology 41
5 endocrinology 40
6 cardiology 40

Hmm, I think #2 is kinda unique and could be really interesting

wow. These are all things I've been considering, except for radiology.
But like benjo said, these could well be the result of my expectations.
Interesting, though.

1 emergency med 49
2 radiology 46
3 general surgery 45
4 pulmonology 45
5 neurosurgery 44
6 anesthesiology 44
7 ophthalmology 44
8 otolaryngology 44
9 urology 44
10 thoracic surgery 43
11 orthopaedic surgery 43

1 psychiatry 41
2 pediatrics 39
3 gastroenterology 38
4 neurology 36
5 hematology 36
6 general internal medicine 35
7 pathology 35
8 physical med and rehabilitation
9 radiology
10 general surgery
11 family practice
12 endocrinology

Well, at least neurology, psychiatric and pediatrics are in the top five. Gastroenterology, endocrinology and physical med sound interesting too--but the others (family practice, surgery, radiology) I'm not nterested in.

As for the bottom....

66 emergency med 24
67 nephrology 24
68 orthopaedic surgery 24
69 otolaryngology 24
70 cardiology
71 anesthesiolgy
72 pulmonology 22

That was a long test! Looks like I am the only one going to be in placenta up to my elbows all day...
ob/gyn 45

1 thoracic surgery 40
2 pathology 40
3 gastroenterology 40
4 emergency med 40
5 colon & rectal surgery 39
6 plastic surgery 39
7 urology 39
8 radiation oncology 39
9 occupational med 38
10 obstetrics/gynecology 38

Bottom:
32 dermatology 34
33 family practice 34
34 cardiology 32
35 general internal med 32
36 psychiatry 32

Of course, I noticed that the range between the numbers isn't very high. I guess that means I might be interested in everything!

1 otolaryngology 48
2 pulmonology 48
3 pathology 46
4 ophthalmology 45
5 thoracic surgery 45

Pathology, damn, that's the last thing I want to do.

1. Emergency med

How did it know!? Now I am definitely set on it haha. Interestingly all of the oncology/radiologies came thereafter.

1 dermatology 46
2 general internal med 42
3 rheumatology 42
4 psychiatry 42
5 ophthalmology 42
6 occupational med 41
7 radiology 41
8 neurology 41
9 med oncology 41
10 hematology 41

not too shabby. i've been thinking lately about derm or psych. of course the other specialty i am most attracted to is ob/gyn, and that was dead last on my list. we'll see...

1. Radiology
2. Dermatology
3. Nuclear Medicine
4. Emergency Medicine
5. Aerospace Medicine
6. Gasteroenterology

Warning: I should stay away from: surgical specialties, primary care, and most "medicine" fellowships.
