Hi, I was wondering if you guys could give me some advice about what to do this summer. In the past, I have worked at a family friend's office. The pay is good but obviously not related to medicine. I was initially looking into working at a doctor's office as a medical assistant because I spoke to a friend who did that, but I'm having a hard time finding anyone who will hire me uncertified and for such a short time. I'm going to be staying at school for spring term, and during this time I'll be doing volunteering at the hospital and emergency room. I'll have both of these positions throughout the school year next year as well. I'm wondering what I should look into doing for the short two months after that that I am home. I was thinking of working part-time at the office I've done in the past, volunteering at my local hospital, and maybe getting some other non-clinical volunteering experience? I also thought about getting CNA certified, the only problem with this is it takes a few weeks, and then I would have literally one month to work... Not sure if any of you have been in a similar situation and could help me out. Thanks!

1) No one will hire you uncertified because they are not allowed to by their state laws - why would you think they would?
2) Doing any kind of certificate program would be silly for the reasons you point out. If you want to do CNA cert to work weekends during the school year or EMT very to volunteer during the school year then that is good.
3) I would say keep on keeping on with your current clinical volunteering and make bank at the office over the summer.

It speaks well of you that the same business is willing to hire you back repeatedly. Keep that summer job and continue to get in clinical volunteering and nonmedical community service to those in need during your off times.

A lot of places do say they will hire uncertified but the short amount of time I can work makes it hard. Also most people I know who have done this knew the doctor they works for previously (family friends,etc.). Thank you for the advice though!
