I want to make a "why do you want to be a doctor" thread, because, well, there just needs to be more people discussing this topic.

BrettBatchelor said:Guju, its not about thread activity, its about content. A simple search yields answers to almost every thread on the front page. I do like to come here and discuss things but it seems like the same thread every time. Maybe I have learned all that SDN can teach me right now. I have been trying to help others but how many times can you say "read the MSAR".
BrettBatchelor said:yeah I agree. Mostly I read for humor these days. I have a good idea where I am going with my pre-allo stuff now. I think I am going to start being a regular in the lounge.

ive met plenty in real life. ive met plenty more on sdn. big turnoff.aragonh said:I never met a "stereotypical" pre-med but some on this board came really close to it. Most of the people are cool. However, some need to take a chill pill.
ha yeah...i used to think about that a lot, then i gave up on the idea. for too many premeds md and mba are just mutually exclusive things. people dont see merit in business training, they see evil. thats life what can you do, is it really worth hitting everyone over the head with it. its just not that common of a combination. besides...im not sure how much i would like young people running around there, its a pretty mature forum. sometimes i feel like i even dont quite belong--similar feelings with the lounge, its an older crowd.BrettBatchelor said:I really wish the MD/MBA thread would liven up. I wish there was more people seriously interested, participating, or graduated.
haha careful, the md/mba mod made mdmba.org. its not a fantastic site, but its there and i guess it will only be as good as the demand for it. you could probably pursue electives in another yr, but of course thats 1 extra yr added. everything comes with opportunity cost. you could always do the mba separately but im looking for formal programs. maybe you could contact the md/mba mod and work your way into the website?BrettBatchelor said:Well also MD-MBA.org is a piece of junk so I am putting together a comp program list as a sticky. Maybe that will spark some interest. It is true that many on the board don't see the merit and I am on the fence about it. I think it would be the ideal training but, I dunno if I want to give up one year and some medicine electives.
Edit: yeah sorry I interchanged thread for forum.

I didn't make the connection. I will def. cut him some slack since he is in the midst of a program and web development takes a good chunk of time. I offered to help keep it updated so we will see if it improves.Shredder said:haha careful, the md/mba mod made mdmba.org. its not a fantastic site, but its there and i guess it will only be as good as the demand for it. you could probably pursue electives in another yr, but of course thats 1 extra yr added. everything comes with opportunity cost. you could always do the mba separately but im looking for formal programs. maybe you could contact the md/mba mod and work your way into the website?
1k poster! ugh im a forum junkie
yeah, he used to post quite a lot on the mdmba forum, but he might be busy right now for whatever reason. he set up some md/mba conference in atlanta too this year, so i think hes doing what he can. but it would be nice to have some mentor figures around there. id also like to contribute to the mdmba cause...but i dont feel ready yet, probably when i actually enter a program.BrettBatchelor said:I didn't make the connection. brett i spend quite a lot more time in the lounge these days. i agree that preallo repeats itself. i guess thats its nature. mcats even worse in that regard, i ditched it right after scores came out.
i want to make an affirmative action thread in response to OP. or a get off your high horse thread (not really yours, but you get the idea).
