MD & DO What MCAT should I aim for given...

This forum made possible through the generous support of SDN members, donors, and sponsors. Thank you.
I would personally never suggest applying to Caribbean, it is hard to even get a semi decent residency coming from there, and near impossible to get into competitive ones (CA is pretty competitive in general) and it is only going to get harder by the time you would graduate.

Next check up on your school list of friendliness to OOS students (for example OHSU). Then also look up their missions (UCR). Take all of these schools off of your list.

Other than that it is really impossible to tell what school list might be applicable to you without your MCAT. I wouldn't even bother starting to make school lists if you aren't applying this cycle. Focus completely on your MCAT, you said it is coming up soon and you aren't doing too well. Put all of your effort into doing as well as possible, you have time on your side, if you end up needing to delay until fall to do well, reschedule. The rest of you app you app looks pretty solid, keep up your EC's for the next year and try to add in ~50 hours or so of shadowing since I don't see that listed currently.

Aim for a 32+ for the MDs and a 26+ for the DOs.

Your application is solid, just get an MCAT score that reflects the rest of your application.

I'd suggest 30-32 for some MD II's and 26-27 for some DO II's 🙂

Yeah... I guess the Caribbean is more a serious last resort thing if it comes to that. Good point about the OOS schools, I'll look into that. The weird thing about UCR is that I am actually in the process of moving out to the Inland Empire right now. That's where the clinic I work for is located, so I'm going to have extremely strong ties to the area in that regard. BUT I don't necessarily want to stay there for life. If you have ever been out there you'd easily know why haha
And yeah, I'm working full time so I can afford life pretty much so I've been trying to do as much studying as I can while I stay sane and balance myself.
Thanks for the heads up about the shadowing 🙂

MD II and DO II? As in secondaries? Or do the "II's" have another meaning? haha

II = Interview Invite. That one took me a bit to figure out.

Anyway....... aim for the highest MCAT score you can? I don't get the title. Do we get to pick our scores now? lol

haha yeah I guess I should've waited to lay this out until I see how I did first lol

Your overall stats are good, barring some crazy low MCAT score (multiple times), you should be competitive at MD and DO schools - Caribbean shouldn't have to be on the table.

Working in IE area may give you a strong enough connection to be considered for UCR, leaving it on the list is fine - although I am familiar with IE and I couldn't imagine living there for any extended amount of time haha...

Keep up on your EC's and good luck with the MCAT!
