This is more to current students: What MPH programs out there offer the most financial aid? Conversely, what schools do not seem to be much help in that area?

And lastly... what do you wish you had known about the financial aid process when choosing schools?

Thanks in advance!!

Research Assistantship Opportunities at Brown University for their MPH Program (Partial and Full).

Some schools do offer partial/full RA positions but they are generally competitive and less frequent in this current economic climate. MPH programs are not too generous on the finaid aspects. Your state school is probably your best option for lower cost programs. I have heard/know of people that rec'd partial aid to Michigan BUT the program is so expensive to begin with that it just brought it down to the price of other schools.

Best thing you can do to put yourself in a good position is to fill out your FAFSA early-I'm talking January right after it comes out.

UMich by far. They offer a lot of money. Also, apply to be a TA in the psychology department. Theres 90 positions with about 120 applicants so chances are very good. They cover your entire tuition, plus 2000 stipend.

I'm at Columbia and I initially didn't receive any money. I initially informed financial aid I was interested in taking 12 units, but then decided to take 15, which increased my tuition by about 3,900 (you pay per unit). All of a sudden, I noticed a 10K scholarship come in from US Dept of Health.

So you really don't know what can happen. You don't know how they choose you, why they choose you, and on what basis they choose you.

Good luck.
