Hello SDN!

I was wondering at what part of the application process will schools ask me for the proof of my state residence?

Lastly, I found out how to be a resident for Texas at Tmsdas website, but I cannot seem to find out how to establish a state resident for Amcas and AAcomas.

For Tmsdas, one of the requirements if I am dependent on a parent, who is a resident, is for my parent to file taxes with me being dependent on them .

Thank you SDN!!!

The preliminary app asks you to identify your state of residence.

I suppose they could ask you questions about it at any point in the process if they think you're NOT an actual state resident, but at my institution you are asked to provide proof via affidavit and supporting docs after acceptance.

Oh, and the Texas apps are only for Texas, that's why there are only Texas residency rules there. For every other state, there are specific rules for establishing state residency which are laid out by each state. Massachusetts has very stringent requirements, for example. In most states you have to live there at least a year outside of undergrad attendance and establish evidence of domicile, like a driver's license, etc.

By the way, if you're a Texas resident for your Texas apps, you're a Texas resident for AMCAS and AACOMAS too. You can only be a resident of one state at a time.

Above is accurate. AMCAS and AACOMAS ask you to give a state of residency (you can only give one). Ultimately I believe it comes down to the schools to vet your residency status. When it comes down to it it might be as simple as looking at your FAFSA, it will have you state tax info and drivers license on it.

On a side note, most states are not going to launch an all out investigation.
