Also, just because someone puts a deposit down at a school, does not necessarily mean that they are going to that school. Maybe 70(a full class) did put a deposit down already, but the schools know that not all people who put down a deposit will go to their school. I put my deposit down at Case to secure a spot, but I am not quite sure that I will be attending Case.

good point, there grinny!

What is the point of this thread??? Too early to be calling the race anyways.

All this thread does is add stress to an already stressfull process.

I called Creighton 2 days ago and they said that they were full...but when I asked a few more questions I got the straight skinny: Over half of the class has accepted and paid deposits, but they have sent acceptances to fill the remaining spots. After they respond, they will continue to narrow it down by sending out acceptances based on how many have put down deposits.

I was at Case actually last week and they were still interviewing people for 2009 class.

are you serious? I heard that there were students who were scheduled to be interviewed in MAy!!!! If it is fall, whati s the point of interviews.....

it is waaaay to early for this thread!

I was at case back in October and they told me they usually still send out acceptances and don't get their class all the way full until a few weeks before classes start. I agree with those who said it might be full on paper, but it's not really full yet.

I called pacific yesterday...they are holding a couple of interviews sometime in feb for alternate spots...but they are closing the 2005 cycle down in feb and calling it a year....they are currently full....

Don't Panic, Everyone
there is still time for interviews!

People....I am very confused that a lot of you still dont get this...we have been in this cycle (well some of us) for better than 6 months. Yes, this is my 2nd cycle and yes I did learn from the first one, but there are some simple rules that are followed that tend to get confused.

Here's what happens:

1) On 12/1 most schools send out X number of acceptances

2) Applicant decides if he/she wants to go to school there (here's the confusing part....if they still have yet to hear from their in state school or #1 choice they put down money for the deposit...this happens a lot).

3) January 15th shows up and schools count how many put down deposits

4) Schools have a meeting a few weeks later to admit the rest of the class (rest of class meaning only up to the amount of spots they have remaining). For example, say State University School of Dentistry has 100 spots. On December 1, they will send out 60-70 spots. Only 10-25% of spots will be filled. Subsequently, after that say in late January or early February they will then only send out enough spots to fill the class (say 30 people took their 12/1 offer of admission, now they can offer 70 spots but not more than that). After they admit 70 (or however many spots) spots again only a certain percentage will take the spot. It keeps repeating like this until the class is full.

5) Again, applicants are now faced with "should I put money down to save my seat...or do I want to go here?" Most students put money down no matter what.

6) The true number of applicants who puts down their deposit AND attends class in July, August or September is the true amount of people who are part of the class of 20XX. Schools often times do not know the true number of their class until the first day of class.

The moral of the story is when a school says their class is filled, its not totally true. It means they sent out enough spots to fill their class or applicants put down deposits to fill the class...but 9 times out of 10 in January/February/March this give and take (sending in deposits and schools sending out acceptances) doesnt end until late March or so and in some cases the first day of class...hence why applicants come off the waitlist on the first day or even first week of class. If I applied to 10 schools and got accepted to 1 of them, of course I will save my spot but if its not my #1, I am going to wait and see if I get into my #1 school while in the meantime saving my seat at the school I was accepted to....everyone on here must keep this in mind. There is no black and white...professional school admissions is in a very grey area. No school is full right now...

YO. I got accepted to Creighton a few days ago but I will most likely not attend or put down the money by Feb. 15th. So, if I was taking a spot it will probably open eventually. Good Luck everyone!!!

FYI a spot isnt considered "taken" until an applicant's deposit money is sent in. Therefore, even if you are accepted (ie the last person who posted who said they got into Creighton) it doesnt matter because you arent going to send money in. In conclusion, a "spot" is NOT filled unless you had sent in deposit money. Creighton will figure this out and send out another acceptance to someone else (unless you email or call and tell them that they should do it sooner by telling them you aren't going to their school). Get it????

Great post! do you happen to know how much time the people get to respond after the late january round?

Perfect3435 at Indiana told me the 2nd round applicants have 1-2 weeks to make their decisions...this could be different at other schools. I was under the impression that they got 3-4 weeks, but I think at this stage of the game (ie very soon), the school decides how long they will give each applicant to put down the money. Perfect3435 told me he didnt get in on the 2nd round but was waitlisted at #5 for the next round.......so putting two and two together I realized a week later 5 students who were on the waitlist and were offered spots turned down their chance to put down money for the deposit. He got in about 1 week after the 2nd rounders received their acceptance letters. Again, however, this was Indiana and may not be how every school operates. Keep this in mind and please people stop with the "this school is full, that school is full". All admission directors (with exception to a few) like to get off the phone with you asap so they will say whatever they can to do so.

Once again, thanks for the informative, yet timely post. Keep up the good work.
