The application opens tomorrow and I will probably have it filled out completely by the end of June, but I just want to get an idea as to what schools to apply to.

I know this question had been asked many times, but I want to ask as everyone's situation can be slightly different.

Here are my stats.

1. Non-traditional Bio major / chem minor
2. first 30 credits at CC(oGPA 3.67) and 90~ish credits at the university (oGPA 3.42)
3. oGPA for both schools = 3.47 sGPA for both schools = 3.37
4. DAT AA24 TS25 PAT 18 (lul)
5. 100 hours of shadowing
6. I have to get the official record from the hospital, but I'd say about 200 hours of volunteering
7. recommendation letter from supervisor, dentist and 1 bio and 1 chem professor

I am going to apply to maryland, VCU, howard, and I am not sure what other schools I should look at.
Should I just go by stats (like GPA , DAT and OOS acceptance rate)? or is there a secret formula to come up with a list.?

My GPA seems to be pretty average or slightly below average and I really really hope my DAT score will make up for at least some of the FXXX ups during my undergraduate years and open up some doors for me.

Is georgia medical college dental school strictly for instate residents?

I don't know what your state school is, but apply to that one as well. You stats look good. I would add a couple of private schools here and there, but you should look at the ADEA guide book and go by where your stats fit. Your DAT scores are great. Maybe not great for the PAT schools, but still pretty good.

You'll definitely get multiple interviews and at least one acceptance. Apply to around 15 schools or more (if money permits). Obviously, the more schools you apply to, the better your chances.

well damn, thanks for the positive, reassuring asnwers 🙂
I am a virginia resident at the time, but I am planning on moving to maryland because of my fiancee so I was going to apply to maryland, VCU and howard. (howard because it's cheaper than other schools).

I was also thinking about private schools like NYU and what not, but the cost of living and tuition turned me off. However, I will probably apply to those as well as back ups. I do not want another gap year as I am already 29 years old. oh do I feel old....phew

Are you a URM? Because Howard is a HBCU. Do a little more research on all of your school choices and add a few private schools as well as regional schools that accept a high amount of OOS (like Temple, possibly WVU, etc.).

I am not a URM but I was going to apply anyway because of the tuition and distance from my city.
Are they very unfriendly towards non-URM?

I wouldn't say unfriendly, they are just very selective towards URMs.

tomato potato I guess. Maybe I shouldn't waste money if I don't even have a chance to get in there.

you gotta apply in-state somewhere, and it might be easier to prove va residency over md residency at this point. this will help you quite a bit with vcu, but don't forget that if you end up in baltimore instead you can switch to in-state midway through school.

you seem to have a strong mid-atlantic bias. you can keep howard on your list, but you should probably know they select for candidates with strong evidence of serving the underserved. if you can't demonstrate that on your app, best not to apply. you should add temple and penn, and possibly rutgers. none of those schools are cheap, but you can be on a train from any of them relatively easily.

good luck.
