Right now I'm struggling to decide whether I should drop my Microbiology class and take the W or finish it and get a C?

I already have one W in genetics, and my GPA is not so great, 3.4.

RIght now I'm a junior, I have all my prereqs done, DAT done, and I plan on applying this spring.

SHould i just take the C?? or save the GPA at all costs?

#1 - the semester isnt over yet so try to do ur best and talk to your prof. to see if they can help you (not unless cali has different lengths of the semester)
#2 - how did u do on ur DATs
#3 - are there any other C's on ur transcript
#4 - 3.4 is a great gpa

But, i would def check #1 and talk to u ur prof. to see if there is any way of salvaging your grade, i.e. extra credit, writing a paper, anything...if not then just kick butt on all ur exams until the semester is over. Good luck!!!

I would take the C, W's are looked upon very negatively. The dean of admissions at my school basically considers all W's an equivalent to F, unless the applicant can provide conveniencing evidence otherwise.

Good luck in your decision.

If i were not to drop this would be my first C, and it could substantially lower my GPA. But then again, I guess two W's would look just as bad as well.

There are some dentists who live on my block and they tell me to protect my GPA at all costs. Because, if you don't get into Dental school; You can atleast go to Grad school with a decent GPA. If your gpa stinks, no d-school or grad school.

As for DAT my score is 21/21/19, which isn't exactly super, so my neighbor dentists also tell me to retake it.

Ha, go retake DAT. You have to get at least 25 across section.

keep the class even with a C and tell you neighboor to shut up because you really dont need to retake the dat you're good to go..

Is having more than 1 C bad?

Oh my goodness...I don't think your neighbors know what they're talking about. Two "W"s will look much worst than one "C". A "C" is concrete, whereas witha "W", there's no telling how bad of shape you were in. Everyone has their strenghts and weaknesses...its not like the adcoms don't realize this. Big deal...one "C"....it shows you have character! 😉

Listen...I had several "C"s on my transcript...my overall GPA was like a 3.65, but only b/c my non-science GPA pulled it up. Science GPA was like a 3.45, which is more important. My DAT was 18/19/16...and I didn't have the problem of no dental school wanting me...in fact, I got into five schools, with a Dean's Scholarship to one of them!

Don't retake the DAT...its not necessary, you're gonna give yourself a nervous breakdown....your scores are great! 👍

And I think you need to stop asking your neighbors for advice...they seem to be trying to intimidate you.
