Hello SDN,
I need some guidance in trying to make medical school work.

Here it is.

Undergrad GPA 2.6:smack:, major Biology/ minor Chem, low gpa due to having a child being out of state(no fam, did it on my own) my senior year in undergrad, currently chemistry teacher 2 yrs, Master Public Health 3.8 gpa, 26 yrs old, Texas / Missouri (born there) resident, volunteer at Arkansas Children Hosp/Methodist in Houston (current), last took Kaplan 08 summer and got a 26 on MCAT.

I know I need to do something about my low undergrad GPA but is SMP or post bac the only options? Or could I just retake my classes I received a C in over at a college or university.

Thanks 🙄

Your best bet might be to consider applying to DO medical schools after retaking classes with a C or lower. Their application service will replace a poor grade with the most recent retake. This would allow you to raise your GPA faster. The MD application service will essentially average the two grades if you retake. DO schools tend to be friendly to nontraditional applicants and to consider the entire application.

And the mean MCAT for acceptees to DO medical schools is 25.5, so your score of 26 would be a good fit.

The grade forgiveness policy applies if the number of credit hours for the retake is the same as the original class.
