I am trying to get into PT school and was wondering if I should disclose my criminal history to the schools I apply to. I have been charged with two felonies (only convicted for one) and was wondering if this will disqualify me from getting into PT school. I have a higher GPA and GRE scores than most of the people that apply-- (3.9 gpa, 164 v, 168 q GRE scores, 5.5 AW) so I feel like my criminal history should not discount me. I would be a better, more competent PT than just about anyone out there. Both of my felonies were really stupid and done when I was a really young and immature 22-year old (now I am 23). I got into a fight with an elderly man in a grocery store (shouldn't matter b/c I don't want to study geriatrics-- I have a bad temper). I am more interested in PT for making a private practice and cashing in on loads of money, primarily focusing on middle-aged adults with good insurance plans.

Should I be honest and upfront or try to sneak this one past the admissions boards? I really want to go to USC.

Thanks for the help,
Josh

I'm really hoping this is a joke. If I were USC or any other school, I would toss your application in the trash. Who cares if you have a high GPA or GRE scores if you have no compassion. Assaulting an elderly man last year? In it for the money? Pretty sad if you ask me.

Your background although impressive will unfortunately be overshadowed by your incidents... Sucks but with so many over-qualified people going for 40 spots in any given program, the applicants who have the clean record will probably get favorable treatment.

Don't forget these programs receive 500 & up applicants and the number is growing exponentially every year since the economy is atrocious and people want a secure job.

Your call but I would put my eggs in other baskets.

Hate to admit it - I had a laugh too 🙂

lol at people who thought this was a serious post.

🙂 I guess I'm gullible. Pretty ridiculous!

Although this is probably a joke, I just want to point out something just in case the OP was serious. Schools make you take a mandatory background check before entering their program. So even if you decide to hide it from PTCAS, you WILL eventually before you even step foot on campus. Hate to go through the whole application process and expenses knowing it was all for nothing.
