I'm a Canadian student looking to apply to a few US dent schools and after spending the last few hours reading about how things were going with everyone else, I was hoping to get some feedback also.

B.SC (Hons) Biochemistry
Overall GPA 3.41
Canadian DAT:
Science-18
AA-18
RC-19
PAT-21
Carving-15

I'm applying to BU, Tufts, USC and Howard.

I'm just finishing up my application now and I'm hoping to submit it by Jan 1st. I realize this is quite late and I'm kicking myself for not thinking about US schools earlier.

Any feedback would be great but my main questions are: should I hold off my application until next year? What are the standards for Canadian applicants?

Thanks a lot to anyone that answers and have a Merry Christmas/Happy Holiday

i would DEFINITELY hold off until next year (apply may 15th). make sure that the schools you apply to accept the canadian DAT and mostly apply to private schools.

hey home boy,,, I dont know what to tell you ,, but this is my situation maybe ul benefit,,

I have a gpa and dat similar to yours and I applied in mid august to NYU and BU. still havnt heard from either. this can have many meanings,, I havnt completely lost hope but im starting to think of rewriting the dat and applying next year in may,, it definitely helps a lot,, I mean applying in August is late,, ask anyone here and theyl tell you that( unless you are applying with a GPA 4 and dat 24+). If money is an issue to you I would wait and apply next year to 12 schools (private ones ofcourse). It is going to cost big bucks but that seems to be the best way to do it. so really its up to you if you want to give it a shot,, I personally think buy the time schools get your application which is about 3 weeks or more from when you send it most of their classes are going to be full,,but again you never know.
that being said I recommend this myself and you

  1. try doing well this comming semester and raise your gpa
  2. make it a point to apply in may,, that is have everything sent to aadsas no later than the end of may.
  3. give the dats another shot
  4. apply to ALL the private schools there are and get your secondaries in(if applicable) at the earliest possible dates.
hopefully you will hear back before september and have a good number of interviews

if you MUST apply to a school this year, apply to just NYU. If not, wait till next year, retake the dat (preferably US), and apply in May.

in fact, don't apply to any school this year. save yourself the money. your gpa is fine, but your DAT scores will not get you anywhere with that late application. I hope this doesn't come off as downright rude; it isn't meant to.🙂

retake the US dat during summers and apply in may next year.👍

Thanks guys, I really appreciate the feedback. Good luck to you all.

side note to think about??

If you take/write both the canadian and the US DAT, do you have to report one or the other or both??? I don't know, but doing better on one may give you the option of reporting that one??

Can someone address this

thats a good point, I also wonder if Ive written both, are they treated the same ?

I would think the American DAT carries more weight at american schools. After all, there are still a few schools here in the states that don't accept Canadian DAT.
