Hey everybody! I was just wondering what I should do... I just took the DAT, and I'm not very pleased with the scores. Is there anyway you can "stop" the scores from being sent to the schools? Or, when the schools do get my scores should I just call them to tell them that I am planning to retake it?

The next time I will be able to take the DAT is at the end of October (which is late but better late than to just stick with not so great scores).

So, do I just sit and wait or start calling schools to tell them I am going to retake? Also, I saw on predents.com that the scores from the test are called "DAT" and "PAT". Which score actually defines the "DAT" score (since there is the TS/AA/PAT)?

There is no way to stop your DAT scores from being sent to your pre-selected Universities. If you are not happy with your scores, I would suggest that you contact these schools and notify them that you are planning on retaking the DAT.
As for predents.com, DAT is actually AA (not quite sure why they don't call it that). But do keep in mind that the TS score is important to schools, although not listed by members of predents.com (Unless you look at their profiles and they chose to give there complete DAT scores)

You never know whether or not they will reject your application based upon your current scores before you get a chance to retake. You should definitely contact their schools and let them know you're retaking and hope for the best.

Thank you USCbiograd...🙂 when do you think I should call them, as soon as possible? Also, do you have any suggestions for books to study with..other than Kaplan and Barrons?

I found that there were a lot of questions on topics that were not even mentioned in my Kaplan and Barrons book.

I LOVE the DAT Destroyer as a study tool for the Science sections in particular. There were MANY questions on the actual test that were almost the exact same as in the destroyer. You can find it on orgoman.com or try to find it used from someone. Much better than Kaplan.

Did you just use a retail Kaplan book, or take the Kaplan DAT course w/ the books and tests they provide? I have a retail DAT book and if thats all I had used to study I would have done horrible. The Kaplan course materials are very good (despite what some say) and they have a lot of test questions. I would do the course in addition to the other mentioned aids (destroyer, etc.)

I thought the TopScore was a huge help for me. The books (I think I used Barron's and Kaplan?) were good but I did super well on their questions and got a false sense of confidence. Then I started taking the topscore exams and was scared ****less, haha. I took all the exams on the CD I got and then did better on the DAT than how I was testing with the practice ones. (Just make sure you review the ones you get wrong so you learn from them.) Aren't they real DAT questions? I think so. Good luck!

I didn't even know there was any other book then then the Kaplan book, when I took the DAT. I studied for maybe a week and did fine. I am however a big slacker and marginally intelligent, don't listen to me.

honestly, if you just go over any of the commercial books,

but then buy a book like kaplan or barons

you might be ok


above poster is correct in that Kaplan class resources is good.

I mainly used the normal Kaplan book that you can just buy online (w/o taking the course). I barely studied with the barrons book since it seemed that my kaplan book had a lot more info than barrons.

I guess I will have to try destoyer. Is it sold at any book store other than online? Also, I was wondering which books will help me with QR and orthographic projections (top-front-end)...what do ya'll think? Maybe I just should have practiced more..
