Got a 213 on step1 and need to offset by significant step2 score improvement. What would be sufficient if I want to do IM back in California, preferably somewhere near the coast? I'm a Cali native studying in another state.

Not even sure if this is the correct forum area, so move if necessary.

Thanks in advance

The specific criteria used by residency directors is you want an increase of 12% in your raw three digit score, OR an increase of at least 25 percentile places. For matching in california, you need to multiply each of those numbers by 1.6. So an increase of (1.6x12x213) = 253 on step 2, or move up by 40 percentile places, which would be about 245 depending on your exact test date. You can then subtract 3 points from the target score for each first author pub in your specific residency field, or subtract 1.5 points for a first author in a different field.
