What time is best to travel overseas during application cycle?

This forum made possible through the generous support of SDN members, donors, and sponsors. Thank you.
After you get into the school you want. You'll have a good month or more of nothing really special going on. Depending on when you get your ideal acceptance you may or may not miss second look .

Interviews don't really start until September/October at the earliest, so before then should be OK so long as you can get your secondaries in.

Otherwise, there are no interviews during the week immediately surrounding Christmas/New Years, so that is the best time once interview season has begun. After most interviews end (March) would also be safe, though as others have said you may miss second-look if you go in April. If you absolutely don't want to risk missing second look, go after April 30th.

My grandparents keep asking me to visit ( been over 5 years) and I wanna tell them when is a possibility.

If you don't mind me asking, where do you want to go? I'm on the same boat. My grandfather became very ill recently and I'm having to put off a trip until I can get school/application stuff over with. 🙁

I had a couple interviews in August and September of this cycle, so super early ones are possible. But im assuming OP would still be around here and won't be traveling that early

Your best bet is to finish your applications early and go in July or August before interviews start.

Or wait until next summer and go before school starts.

Nepal. And also visit tibet and mongolia if possible.

I'll be traveling all of may!

Summer if you'll have internet access, or for Christmas holidays! Or later in the year when interviews die down.

I submitted my primary app on the first day available and spent all of June in Costa Rica. It was great because it takes about a month to get verified anyway, and it was the perfect break before secondaries start flowing.

I spent a week in Hawaii in July...slightly different obviously but I was also kind of remote too lol

For a long trip, I found Jan-June to be a reasonable time. Interviews only go through Feb or so, so odds are that with an early app you can get most of them out of the way before you travel and then probably only have 1 or 2 further opportunities to return anyway. There's a chance that you would be in by then anyway, giving you less pressure to do the expensive interview-from-abroad, and most schools are actually decent about scheduling for international trips (I was able to lump 2 together). If your trip is shorter, push it back to March and you've got months of free time.
