What are you guys actually bringing in to the interview room? A couple of my med school friends (no vet kids to compare with) have brought in a tablet with notes on things they want to touch on/remember in the interview Is that a good idea or would it look look like I was not prepared enough to answer off the top of my head? Also, things like copies of your VMCAS? I know med to vet doesn't always translate, but just wondering if this kind of stuff was common at vet school interviews.

In other news, congrats to all those who have received acceptances!! I leave for Columbus tomorrow... so nervous!

A nice suit, unless its casual interview like mine, your smile (but don't smile too much or they'll think your odd), and your common sense.

Oh and a change of underwear in case you get REALLY nervous

I brought a (rather large, but appropriately styled) purse with a change of shoes for the tour, some gloves, a scarf, some chapstick, a lint roller, one of those stain-removing pens, my phone (on silent, of course), my keys, my hotel key, and a leather padfolio. Inside the padfolio was a passport type photo that they asked me to bring, directions from my hotel to the school and back, 4 copies of the abstract of my thesis in case they wanted to see it, a blank pad of paper so I could take notes if I wanted, a pen for the same reason, and the list of questions that I wanted to ask them in case they decided to slip away from my memory. I didn't need HALF of the stuff that I brought with me that day, but it sure made me feel better having it there lol.

Haha, that actually reminds me of something that happened during my Ohio interview. My interviewer kept putting his arms behind his head and revealing his very noticeable armpit stains. I tried to not to look but my eyes were inadvertently drawn to that area. At one point, I was so distracted by them that I had to ask him to repeat his question. The good thing is, it made me less nervous. 😉

Maybe that was an intentional interviewing strategy to see how well you think amid distractions!!! 😀

I love this!

GREAT IDEA!! must add to my list lol that reminds me, its been FOREVER since i wore hose with a skirt, but i just remembered it would be handy to bring clear finger nail polish if i snag it!!

Hey,

Its been a while, but I brought a portfolio binder with my VMCAS application, my supplemental for the school, my questions and answers to brush up on, and my resume, just randomly.

I also got a small umbrella to put in my coat pocket (overcoat) just in case it rains. I hate the rain.

Also, I know people like to leave their phones on silent, but turn them off!! People always say, oh i thought it was on silent, but when it rings in your interview, how are you going to feel?

Just turn them off.

Good luck!

Water!

Seriously, taking a sip of water is a socially acceptable way to give you extra time to compose yourself or think through a good answer to a tough question. Much better than stammering or staring blankly for a few seconds.

Trust me, I used to interview people for a living. 😀
