Is it inappropriate to show up with a bag or a folder when going to an interview?

not at all. almost everyone brings either a bookbag or folder.

It might be inappropriate to show up *in* a bag. It muffles your voice, making it difficult for the interviewers to hear you. Plus, it's really hot.

I don't know this firsthand, but I've heard that most schools are perfectly fine with you bringing luggage, and will give you a place to store it while you interview.

Every place I've been to has been totally cool with that. They usually let people leave their stuff in the admissions office or something.

I've had to leave my luggage in the office of 2 schools twice. They were very accomodating and actually prepared for it.

I left my garmet bag at in the deans office and low and behold, when I returned after interviews were over my clothes had been freshly pressed and folded back into my bag. How thoughtful I thought!

I can see the prospectus now: "We specialize in geriatric medicine, trauma surgery, and laundry."
