Hey everyone,

I was hoping that i could get some feedback on the best thing to do during the upcoming spring semester. i made a similar post on the Under 3.0 club but i didn't get as much from that as i had hoped (But thank you Futuredds2010! Your advice did not go unheard 🙂).

So here's the scoop:

i just graduated from a four year college last spring and i majored in cell and molecular bio. According to AADSAS my sGPA is 2.9 and my cGPA is 3.06. My DAT breakdown:

Bio 20
Chem 21
Orgo 26
PAT 17
QR 14
RC 22
TS 22
AA 21

Right now, i am working full-time as a dental assistant back home and i really enjoy it. i opted not to try to apply to a post-bacc or masters b/c my gpa was too low and plus i didn't want to pay for another degree that i am not going to use.

I thought working for a year in a dental office would be better for me in terms of adding to my EC and maybe getting a new perspective when rewriting my personal statement. Also I am taking Anatomy and Physiology I on saturdays at a community college to raise my sGPA and a psych class (necessary for another purpose) on fri nights.

I applied this year, but only to 3 schools NYU, BU and Stonybrook (new york born and raised! 😀), which are my top 3 choices. I figured i wouldn't get in and would have to apply again next year, I just wanted the schools to see my stats now so i can ask them what i could do. The thing is, registering for classes next semester is coming up and i want to be sure i make the right choice even if i can't get a chance to talk to the schools to ask their opinion.

So here are the issues i am hoping to get different perspectives on:

1. Is it better to remain at the dental office for the full year or should i quit in dec and be a full-time non-matriculated student at a 4 year institute, taking biochem and two other upper level bio classes to raise my sGPA in the spring? Working at the dental office is a great experience and i am learning so much, but i can't ignore the fact that both GPAs are so low 🙁.

2. should i retake the DAT? I know my PAT and and especially my QR score are low, i don't mind taking it over but thinking about it and trying to find time to study and take it is tough. I would probably take it in may or june of next year.

Please take pity on me due to the fact that this is not one of those "i have a 3.8 GPA and 23 AA, what are my chances??" threads, which quite honestly i know most of us are very tired of at this point 😛.

Thoughts on this are very much appreciated, thanks!
