hi all.

uh, so basically i'm a third-year who decided to go down the premed route pretty late.

as a result, i'm completely lost as to what i need to do with certain aspects of my med school app... mainly what i should do with my letters of rec.

i asked a professor of mine earlier this week if she would write me a letter of rec. she said yes. she hasn't written it yet, but i just now realized that i have absolutely no idea what to do with it.

i don't know what to do with this letter of rec because i'm NOT applying to med school this coming round of apps. i plan on applying in the summer of 2012... so... yeah.

what do i do with this letter of rec? i think i'm supposed to store it in a professional letter service, but my school's PLS closed down. (yes, fml.)

can anyone help me? please? i would really appreciate it! 🙂

thank you!

p.s. the reason i'm asking for it so early is because i attend a large university. there is no way my prof would remember me a year from now, despite me having attended all her OHs AND taken three consecutive classes with her!

tl;dr version: my professor said she'd write a letter of rec for me. but i don't need it until summer 2012. what should i do with this letter of rec? and what is a professional letter service -- and should i be storing the LOR there? o_o;

I'm unsure as well. I've heard of asking them to date it for when you plan on applying.

You can always explain the situation from her that you won't be applying for another year but you are requesting a letter now while it is still fresh in her mind. She'll probably be willing to save it for you on her computer but a whole year is risky...

Get the LOR now, and put it on interfolio.

I would also recommend using Interfolio for all of your letters. It is a very reliable and easy to use service, and you can store your letters to be sent on a future date.

👍 For something like $40-50 you can get the account that holds your letters for 3 years, which is convenient if your first app cycle doesn't go so well.

You might want to check with your school's career office too. A lot of universities have free electronic LOR holding services. When its time to apply, you can just forward your letters from there (or from Interfolio) to AMCAS.

thanks y'all. 🙂

that was superhelpful!
