Hey guys.. Hoping someone that had interviews in the past can answer. I'm taking a flight to a few of my interviews, but I'm trying to avoid the costs of a hotel room. My only concern is, where do I put my luggage after I've gotten off the plane and changed into my suit? I'd be heading to the school with a small suitcase in hand. So what would I do? Thank you in advance! I'd appreciate any advice.

Bring it in with you!

You could try leaving it at storage facilities? Or you could act like a crazy person and ask the baggage lost and found to hold onto it for you?

Haha Bringing my luggage into an interview room would be very unprofessional, no?. And also, I'm sure each school has a tour of their campus and a lunch or something of that sort. There has to be an easier way to do this...

somebody in the admissions office will just hold onto it for you... Trust me, i've seen it done multiple times.

Thanks! Should I take your word? 🙂 Or call the school and make sure? I just don't want to get to the school and have something as silly as this make me look unprofessional, you know? Thanks again for the input.

Why ask a forum then...

Not saying I don't believe him, but if multiple people echo the same comment, then I wouldn't bother asking every individual school.

TRUST ME.. I've seen multiple people do it.. For example, you fly into an interview, stay at a hotel the night before. you have to be out of the hotel by 12. you can either check your luggage at the hotel or bring it with you. that's your only choice. I've been to 8 interviews.. i've seen it. i've seen multiple people do it at a single interview. you don't have a choice.

I am thinking ...how you are planning to go to School from the airport ...If your answer is car rental then i would leave mine in the trunk....also i don't think you are carrying bulk load of stuff if going for the same day interview.

PS: i don't know how many cities have reliable subway sytem?

@Goff: Thank you very much! I believe you, I never said I didn't! Haha thank you again for your input. I'll trust you and do as you said.
@Voager: Honestly, I'm still trying to plan it out with the airline ticket and the interviews and whatnot. But my plan was to go to the airport with my suitcase and suit in hand, change into the suit at the airport. (Ideally, I would find the closest airport to the school to fly to) Then, probably take a cab to the school and back to the airport?
Orrrr... if I can try to be sneaky, I know some airports and hotels have shuttle systems to one another. And also, some hotels in the area have shuttle systems to the school. So maybe I can sneak into the shuttles? Haha not sure, just an idea that popped into my head? But the cab would probably be option 1 to/from the school to the airport.

if you're still nervous, you can always call and ask. i'm sure they're be more than helpful.

Thank you again! I appreciate your help! One last question that I do have though.... Is what I'm saying realistic? For example, to fly to Kentucky, change in the airport bathroom, hang around at the airport for a bit until around interview time, then catch a cab and head over? And after the interview, I guess call a cab to the school to take me to the airport and hang out at the airport until my flight? Thanks for the insight... Of course, this is all pending I find the flights that correspond to this schedule.

Out of curiosity, which school are you preparing for? Would it be feasible for you to fly in and out on the same day, since you generally have to show up at a school pretty early?

Hopefully you will find flights that fit your interview schedule....I am not so lucky I have to stay at the hotel for a night before interview 🙁...most school want you to be at school by 7:45AM or so.

@diene: I mean, I think so. What would make you think it's not feasible, just so I get an idea? Well, Kentucky wants me there at 9 am so I think that's pretty realistic.
@voager: :/ yeah I hope I find flights that correspond. We'll see. But I just want to know if its realistic to do what I'm saying. One of my interviews is at 7:45 am also, the other is at 9 am. I think for the 7:45, I'll go the night before.

I called LECOM to ask the same question and the lady at the admissions office told me that it would be fine if I put my duffle bag and backpack in the admissions office while I did the interview day. This may change from school to school so I would just call ahead of time and make sure it's alright so you don't run the risk of paying a hobo to watch your luggage. :smack:

I think I'll call the schools a few days before my interview to see if they'll allow that. LECOM didn't create any problems when you called and asked, I assume?

You can leave it with the receptionist at the front desk of the hotel. I've called about the same problem before to hotels, they said they could hold on to it until I come back from the interview

My original plan was to actually not book a hotel at all. I was going to try to find a flight that landed a few hours before my interview, but unfortunately, it doesn't seem that any flights tend to land before 9 or 10 am. Interviews are usually that time in the morning so I was hoping to get a flight that lands real early, but doesn't seem feasible... I guess I'll do what you said if I am forced to get a hotel and find it better to come back to the hotel after the interview as opposed to going straight from the school to the airport. Thanks again!

I went to several interviews last cycle, and one of them was after 1pm. Yet, I would NEVER even think of flying in the same day, even for the 1pm interview. Many flights get delayed and you can end up missing your interview. But of course, it is up to you.
In some I rented a car and kept it in the trunk, in others that had an airport/school shuttle I left it at the hotel and picked it up afterwards. I never took mine to an interview, but I did see one or two people at each interview bring theirs.

I think you're absolutely right actually, with flight delays and accounting for the unexpected. Regardless, I couldn't find a flight to certain locations that lands before my interview time, but I'm going to leave the interview and head straight to the airport. I don't think that should be an issue right, heading back home the same day after the interview? And it depends on which hotels I book and which ones have airport shuttles and things, but I don't think I'll be investing in a car rental but will just take a cab if I need to get anywhere. Plus, I'm 20 😉 I can't legally get a rental haha

Call ahead and speak with someone at the student services or whoever is in charge of interviews. They have accommodations for carry-on's etc. for applicants.

You can just leave it at the hotel.

Also, they know you are traveling to see the school. The school is not bothered by luggage.

Leave it with the office where you check in for your interview. There are thousands of interviews... people leave luggage at the school all the time. It not unprofessional. I did that for 6 interviews last year.

Alright, I'll contact each school individually and just make sure they're okay with it. If not, the hotel is my second option. Third option, hide it outside somewhere in the bushes or behind a tree 🙂

Pretty much every interview I went to had a place for luggage if you needed to drop it off somewhere. A conference room, with the secretary, dont worry...there will be a place

do note that certain rental companies charge more for insurance/ add on an under-21 fee for car rentals. I do know that using the costco rate for car rentals get you out of the fees.

But otherwise, you may need to pay more for car rentals than other people.

I was just going to use a cab? I figured that'd be easier.
