So I did a research internship at this summer. I'm aware that it's not at Harvard, but it's still a respected medical school and residency program. I did a semester of research at my home university and I'm starting to think that research isn't really my favorite thing in the world. I really like interacting with people and enjoy my work at a doctor's office wayyy more.

So I'm starting to wonder if there are any other types of internships for premed students that aren't research based.

I still want to get away for the summer, but I do want it to be something that will make my resume for med school look better. Any ideas?

Also, do you think this is enough research? Do you think these other internships will look nearly as good as research?

I'm talking about for next summer. Also, I did the whole study abroad thing and am looking for something in the US

Solution: find a cause in your community that strikes a chord with your interests and serve the said cause.

(There aren't going to be many official summer "somethings" that are still accepting applications. Summer is almost half over, dude.)

I know a guy who worked with RAM (Remote Area Medical - ramusa.org) during a summer in undergrad (I worked it for a couple weeks as a med student). It'd likely be a lot of administrative work as a pre-med, but during the actual event (usually a weekend in the summer), you would likely interact with lots of patients. Not sure what you would need to do (I volunteered with my school, as there was a group of us that went), but it might be worth looking into.

That sounds really interesting.
Could you be more specific about what kind of work?
