I'm starting med school in August and am trying to decide on a case to carry my laptop & school supplies. There are primarily 2 different models that I am choosing from. One is a traditional type laptop case that carries it, all my laptop stuff, and has 3 file sections to help seperate papers. I am thinking that this is probably going to be my best bet. However, there is no room to carry books with me in this case. The other model I am looking at is basically like a book bag with a laptop case built into it (taking up some of the book room. What is neccessary to carry around with me all of the time and which case would be more efficient during school?

Thanks

Many schools have rooms for students and give them each a desk with drawers and keys. You should find out if your school does and then use that info to help you decide, you dont want to be toting around a lot of crap especially when you probably wont need any of it most of the time.

Some schools also assign each student a locker.

I have a backpack that's padded for my laptop. I can still shove some books in there too and I prefer a backpack b/c my other bag was killing my shoulder after carrying it around for awhile.

Michigan State assigns us all lockers. Use them if you have them. However, you will probably have a lot of material for each course. At MSU, there are course packs that have all lecture materials for the entire course. These can be rather lengthy and bulky. I usually took out the materials for the section we were studying, and left the rest home. This cut down on back strain significantly. I didn't bring my laptop to school much, only when I planned on being there to study all day usually.
I found the school's computer center to be adequate for assignments and internet research. If I needed a document that I had worked on at home, I just emailed it to myself and downloaded it in the computer lab.

Anyway, go with what works FOR YOU!! Everyone is different. You'll find your groove.

Just wait until school starts and see how it goes. You might find that it's not worth bringing your laptop to school everyday. It's not like you're going to be thrown right into the fire when school starts. Things will be a little laid back at first and you'll have a chance to figure things out.

Yourself, notes, and a pen... that is when you go to class.

I bought a laptop backpack on wheels. these were hard to find but i found it. I have a tablet pc so i will probably be taking notes on it. my school has lockers so i coudl lock it in there when i dont' want to lug it around which i really can't forsee.
