I have my first interview in about 2 days and i was wondering if someone could give me the rundown of the does and don'ts as far as dress when it comes to interviews(example suit/no suit, colored shirt/plain shirt)....any info would be nicness..ggggggggggoooood loooook

DeChellD,

Definitely wear a suit. It does not matter if you have a plain white shirt or a colored shirt. I usually wear lighter colors, but that is just my preference. Shirt, tie, and suit are a must at medical school interviews.

I have seen a couple of other threads on here about things to wear and not to wear. Just do a search and see what comes up. I wish you luck.

Yeah, just run a search and you'll find tons of good advice on interview apparel.

good luck!

Ok here is what I would suggest. I would wear a suit preferably black or dark grey in color because it seems more professional. I would also suggest wearing some sort of red with your suit either a white shirt w/ red tie or something like that because psychologically red signifies power and is typically not a color that illicits thoughts of weakness. BTW i got these suggestions from a friend of mine who is an MBA so he is used to business meetings and interviews and the like.

I agree. Wear the most professional looking outfit you have. And of course go buy something if you don't have professional looking outfits such as a suit.

I wore a grey suit (skirt and jacket shirt.) It is best to wear darker colors; blues, blacks or greys. And high heels shouldn't be too high. Remember most schools have walking tours and you want to be able to keep up with everyone.

Schools are looking for professional looking people that they would want to have as their colleagues.

Good luck at your interview!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Thanks much everyone for the suggestions.......i'ma get pimp juiced out and work my magic......gooooood loooook peoples

Okay don't listen to everyone else; they have absolutely no idea what they're talking about.

Wear the following exactly:

Wife Beater tank top, one sweat band on your left wrist, a pirate's eye patch, a Scottish kilt (very important=shoe in), a brown sock on your left foot, a yellow sock on your right foot, thong flip flops.

If your ears are pierced, try to find some big loopy earrings.

YOU'RE GOLDEN

DeChellD,

I would reiterate what everyone else has said. A dark colored suit with dress shoes. My advice is to make sure that the clothes are comftorable (especially true for the shoes). You are going to be in them for atleast a couple of hours and will probably be taken on a walking tour of the campus.

Good luck and keep your head up. It truly is an honor to be invited to an interview at medical school.

Well, I interview students occasionally so I guess I could say what I like.

Look clean, but not anal. Show me who you are.

Wear a suit, its professional and appropriate. Nothing loud or obnoxious. On a personal note I think black is boring. You are not going to a funeral. Black says "Im to afraid to be who I am to me". That being said, don't go buy a suit just because you were planning on Black, just add a little variety (a colored shirt, a nice tie etc.).

Nothing more unoriginal and uninspiring to me then Black suit, white shirt, black and grey tie. Now if you got some pinstrip going fine.

In all actuallity the suit will not make or break you...at least it shouldn't. But subliminally it tells me a little about you. Communitcate with me, don't fear me.

All in all - a dark suit, nice shoes (that are clean), and a little color but not to much.

Upon further reading I see that you are probably a girl (hence the dress reference). I would stick to a suit still (skirt or pants) although I think pants would be more comfortable. same basic idea, except with a girl I don't think color is as big of a deal. I have seen many nice looking girls in marroon, purples, blues, and other cooler colors.

I did not pick up on that. I thought 'dress' meaning attire as in dresscode. Oh god I hope the guys at LECOM do not have to wear dresses.

raptorman.... I see what you were saying. Probably did mean as in "attire". And no while LECOM is quite anal from what I have heard they don't make them wear dresses.

I saw someone interviewing this year at PCOM wearing cargo pants and a long sleeve pull-over shirt. Not sure is SHE got in.

You've got to be kidding:wow:

Well, maybe they checked their luggage in at the airport and it went somewhere else. I can only hope that is the reason.

I didn't wear a suit to any of my interviews. Just nice khaki pants and a shirt w/ a tie. I just didn't feel like dropping the cash for a suit. Plus, if a school was going to really take offense to me not wearing a suit I wouldn't have wanted to go there anyway.

obviously it didn't matter because you got in, however, what you wore is more appropriate for a casual lunch or something. When interviewing, always wear a jacket... khaki = casual... i woul think they would want the interview to mean something more to you.... plus don't be such a cheapskate!! Chicks dig guys who will spend a little money on their wardrobe.

A word from the wise about being too "trendy"...

I wore these dark blue Armani trousers to my simulated patient lab today, and the only negative comment about my entire performance was when the "patient" accused them of being JEANS!!! Argh! I let her finish her lecture on how one should look professional, then politely pointed out that they certainly were not jeans. She apologized...but still! 🙄

I am sticking to black pants next time...

Anyway, point is, look clean and polished, don't smell bad, and keep the hair out of your eyes.

Oh, and if you walk in with like, 3 mints in your mouth, don't try to talk through them and joke about it when we try to ask you questions!

its okay lucky, a couple of those SPAL patients are off their rockers so to speak. I had a couple friends last year that had simliar comments

One spal patient complained about a girls perfume on her eval sheet (she wasn't wearing any) and the funny thing is that I had talked to the girl after her spal and all she could talk about was how strong her spal patients perfume was (near noxious)

On another note, IF you have th money for "trendy" armani pants, why the hell aren't you buying me dinner more often?

Because they were purchased when I was a working girl with an income! 😀

Thanks for the tip on what my attire was for my interview over three months ago. My interviews were very casual, so it looks like i made the right choice. 😀

The point is you don't have to wear a suit to receive an acceptance. If you want to wear a suit that's great, but don't feel like you have to just because everyone else is.

I just didn't feel like dropping the cash for a suit.

My feeling is that I will have to drop it sooner or later. I do not want to get to 3rd year rotations and be confronted with a large bill for professional attire. I am starting now and with each financial aid check I get.
