This is going to be quick. I was just invited to interview at School A. School B is in the same state and in fact on my way as I drive down to School A. Should I tell school B that I am going to be in the area because of my School A interview or should I leave it vague?

Thanks!

I always tell them. It makes it look more legit that you're not just "saying" you'll be around in hopes that they grant you an interview. Plus, you can tell them the date you'll be at School A so then can schedule around it... it'd be awkward if they gave you the same date and you had to tell them that you already had an interview. Something to the effect of:

"I am a resident of [state] traveling to [area] in order to interview at [school A] on [date]. I wanted to inform [school B] of my upcoming travel in hopes that, if I am going to be granted an interview at [school B], it can be coordinated around this trip." Etc.

I usually call before I send the email in hopes that I can just talk to a human and avoid the email awkwardness. YMMV. Hope this helps... good luck!
