What was the single most annoying thing you hated about being pre-med?

This forum made possible through the generous support of SDN members, donors, and sponsors. Thank you.
And I luv you too shrimp. True story though, I hate when people whine in lab. Seriously, how are you going to make it to the next level?

Not being able to set a western properly doesn't equate to poor doctoring....and if it does, I am genuinely screwed. lol

Everyone calling themselves MS0's.
Name dropping (Well, at Harvard...)
"You didn't know that X causes Y usually in pregnant women? I thought you said you wanted to be a doctor"
"Did you know they work long hours?" No strange I wasn't aware.
No your LVN daughter didn't go to medical school. No your son is an ER tech not an ER physician
No I don't watch House, ER, Scrubs or any other crappy tv show.

Guilty!
Don't care.
Pretentious? You betcha.

Give all this exciting stuff about 2 more semesters before it all turn into toxic chemicals...lol

So you suggest second semester of my junior year will be the roughest? I figure I will have heard back from a couple schools by then. What's your logic behind this?

See, when I'm at home, I come up with every excuse imaginable in order to not study. Oh wait, my TV is right there? Netflix. I'm 20 ft away from my fridge? FOOD.

I like studying in the library because it limits my distractions.
I'm exactly the same way. Also since there's usually someone else at my house it could get pretty loud and I cannot study in any environment that's not completely silent.

its gonna get so boring and old and boring and old and old and boring and old and boring....you got the idea.lol is it not right @ChemNerd07 ?

I can understand that.... But doesn't the fact that you are accepted to med school keep you going?!
For me, I love concentrating on my research everyday and looking for new perspectives. If you are involved with research, do you feel this way??? I don't think I could make myself bored.:. Lol always something to do!

MudPhud?

Then you just get sick of everyone trying to compare, people start getting really snappy when you're accepted and they're not. I don't know how many times people were like …um why do you care aren't you already accepted? It's just.. gosh I'm over it.

I refuse to believe that my life as a doctor won't be almost exactly, if not exactly, like Grey's Anatomy.

EDIT: ONLY THE GOOD PARTS

Yes Lab. More preferably one of the Biological science

Labs...
(n.) worst then lectures, it's **** you must do. You listen to a 2 hr. lecture in bio lab on how to put a beaker full of enzymes in the fridge to denature them. Then there's Chemistry. That's 6 hrs. because your premed classmates break a thermometer, burn the mesh wire on the Bunsen burner to a point it smells like sulfur, watch everyone freak out like it's resident evil, and yes, the lazy pre-med moans about the workload taking too long, yet he or she does jack.
Though I do like watching people put on the dusk mask, like that will stop elemental mercury or deadly vapors.

Gotcha. Thanks for that pearl of wisdom.

Seriously. I'm the only person in my program accepted to medical school and people are just very hostile towards me. I will not apologize for putting my best foot forward. I'm not a gunner, I'm just dedicated...perhaps moreso than you. I would love to say that to someone the next time they get on my $#!T, but I have more class than that.

all the unnecessary pressures and stuff you have to do to fill the checklist (18 units on top of mcat studying, clinical experiences, research just because other people can do it and balance all that stuff), how ****ty and discouraging counselors are, how phony and competitive a lot of premed students are.

I understand this. I dislike it just as much as I am guilty of it though. When everyone is judging you, unless you are truly a saint, there is too much to risk. Why didn't I spend a summer volunteering? I wanted to go on an awesome vacation - does that make me less fit for the practice of medicine, enjoying my youth before it is too late? You know, it's these kind of extremes that drive the phoniness. I'm not a fan of it, but it's just one of those things I guess.

You're obviously a horrible person if you spent the summer sailing rather than building homes in Indonesia. You know that.

ha reminds me of a person I knew who "really had a passion for surgery"..... from watching grey's anatomy.
Someone in my undergrad (we both transferred from the same school to the same second university) and they actually wrote about nip/tuck in their personal statement...and that was their driving force for going into medicine....they graduated with barely a 2.5 GPA and now they are in PA school.

Adding my own comment: pre-med students who realize medicine is not in the cards for them, and then start saying things like "well, PA school is just as competiive as medical school" or "Well a Physical therapist does the same things that an orthopedist does..." OMG get your head out of the clouds....you aren't a doctor and you aren't getting the same level of training as one.

the pre-meds that are like "man that MCAT was sooo hard i got a 7 in verbal. why is that even on the test its all about luck"

My sailboat has an emergency engine that is powered by the tears of impoverished indonesian child soldiers.

You and me both. Other people will FINALLY start hearing back in February. Then they can get off my backs. Gah!

I can't stand pre-meds that get a certain (uninformed and/or incorrect) idea in their head and then will argue the living $#!T out of that, shamelessly despite the blatant ignorance that comes with saying things like "Uhh, no - if you can't do MD in the U.S., then you go to the Carribean and do your M.D. there - you get better residency options with an M.D. than a D.O."

Honestly, alot of people in my program delayed their application despite being advised to do otherwise - and for their cold attitude towards me....I'm kind of looking forward to them not getting accepted, or initiating a new application cycle before being pulled off the waitlist somewhere at the very last second. I realize I sound awful here, but the way people have acted towards me is not very becoming of the type of person you would want to have as a classmate in your medical school. What, are you going to $#!T all over me when I get a 265 on my step I and you only score 225? Going to try and sabotage me during clerkships? Jerks.

Why do people assume DO's aren't competitive for residencies? Seriously. I know of a DO that scored in the 98th percentile on her neurology board exam and yes that is out of MD and DO physicians.

Oh man.. there's this kid who is just so full of himself and would make all these comments and look down upon everyone. I love it because he retook his MCAT so he wouldn't just 'get in somewhere' guess who only has 1 ii and didn't even get an interview at our state school. He was the one being all snappy to be about 'well why do you care about your grade? you're already in.'
