What would be your preference on west coast?

UCLA, cos they denied me for undergrad.

jk, i like the city. i like to study in a campus with other programs in addition to med/dent. most importantly, public school and in-state to lower the cost.

UCLA, of course!
It's my current undergrad... I wouldn't mind staying here for 4 more years. 🙂

I used to think of UCLA as being a dream school for me to attend. However, after applying to their dental school i found out how unprofessional their staff is and how over rated the school is. i have called the school several times and gotten an answering machine and left a few msgs and no one bothered to call me back. when i did get a hold of someone there, i really regreted calling and even applying to UCLA.

also i have lived in Los Angeles for several years now and trust me it sounds better than it is. the traffic sucks, the prices of everything is through the roof, and the people are just rude and full of ----.

Wow i hope all of you kids research your schools a little better. UCLA is def not a school you would want to pick. Overpriced, has problem with attaining patients, and an ugle school. While I dont know about all the schools. I know a lot of kids love UOP ONLY if you want to go GP. otherwise def avoid it. I herad UCSF is a great school. USC is either the most or second most expenisve dental school in the nation, def not worth it, wuth how little uSC offers. Dont know anythign about Uwashington, or much about Arizona considering its a brand new program. Im sure Arizooone will have top of the line curriculum and facilities, but you are gonna have to bascially be guinea pig and have to gp through a lot of buumps and changes, plus not have the comfort of personal faculty as many oof them are visiting lecturers from other dental schools.

UCLA? overpriced? what do you mean? you mean for out of state students right? cuz for in staters it's the cheapest option!

but why is it that UOP is pretty much only good for GP? how come they don't send many students to speciality programs? do the students there just opt not to go?

If I had to rank them: I would go

1. UCLA- best rep; state school, nice part of L.A. (Brentwood) Sunset Blvd isn't far away. CON: Everyone in your class is a genius so if you want Ortho or Endo, it could be competitive.

2. UCSF- PRO: Great reputation, state shcool tuition. located in a great city. Great research facilities CON: Environment is known for being somewhat cutthroat and serious-minded

3. Washing or UDUB - PRO
State school tuition, Seattle is a nice city with a lot of amenities. Great reputation. CON: Environment is said to be somewhat cutthroat. Seattle's weather isn't for everyone. It rains 300 days out of the year. I hope you like the grungy granola scene.

4. UOP - PRO: Great clinical school; Known as Happy Dental U students love it there, great location in SF. CON: Expensive. Not known for placing students in specialties. Pace is ridiculously hectic during first year.

5. Arizona- PRO: Arizona means comfortable living. Great weather, cheap living, nice people, accessible amenities. Not terribly expensive for a private school. School implements innovative curriculum. CON: Mesa is not for young single people. It's one large family suburb. Student body is not diverse. School is new so you may be at the mercy of it's growing pains.

6. USC- PRO: Hey, it's LA so anything from surfing to snow skiing to Las Vegas to Sunset is at your disposal. PBL means you will have a lot of free time. Classes don't start early. CON: Second most expensive dental school. PBL curriculum annoys students. Located near dumpy crime ridden neighborhood. Some students choose to commute an hour to and from school.

7. Loma Linda - PRO: location is somewhat serene. Students are friendly CON: Student body is extremly conservative. You better hope you are 7th Day Adventist.

But we have 16 here full-time, so it's no problem. Nothing like hanging out with your dean on a Friday night!
