Hi everyone!

I'm having a tough time choosing between schools...

What factored the most in your decision, when choosing a school? Reputation of the school? Cost of tuition/cost of living? Or location of the school?

Especially if you're hoping to specialize, does reputation matter?! I've heard the term "no-name schools" be tossed around… definitely a scary concept. Also, what if the more reputable schools or school in a beautiful, beautiful location is lightyears more expensive? I don't come from a wealthy family, so having loans up to a half mill is not an easy pill to swallow...

Please provide input especially if you're an international applicant (Canadian!)

Thanks!

Cost. The rest is wht you make of it. If you live in the best location, but were too busy studying, what's the use? And everyone tells me you get what you put into your dental school education...if it has a bad reputation you just need to over come that by putting in more effort. And BTW who outside of dental folk really know what schools have a bad reputation. I have heard bad things about Columbia, NYU and USC, but to outsiders those sound like great schools.

Cost is very important, but so is your mental health. Don't live somewhere for 4 years if its going to make you crazy.

I've been accepted to one of the state schools that has weather similar to where I currently live in Canada. Cold, depressing, tundra. But I can apply for in-state residency after 1 year, and save around 30/40k each year. It's a quiet city, and not that exciting. But a good program, I've heard, and the "best bang for your buck" - which, while trying to apply for loans, seems appealing. The other is a private school; very expensive, but beautiful campus, and from what I've heard, new equipment & facilities. Apart of me makes me feel like the weather & facilities might make me more motivated to wake up at 6am and memorize gross anatomy, haha - I could be wrong?! So torn 🙁

I want to believe reputation doesn't matter, but unfortunately, I feel like it's not always the case 🙁

What's the school in the cold you were accepted to?
