- volunteering at local non-profits
- learning how to cook (well)
- working out
- reading (any suggestions?)
- brewing beers
- party party party (still living in my fraternity house for another semester)

Just a sidenote, i'm from new york

So far, i got into Temple and NYU and rejected by Harvard. I have a pretty good application (3.9+ GPA, 25/25/27 DAT, etc) but havent heard a single news from the other 5 schools i applied to... :/

I had 8 months off too....best 8 months ever. Contrary to what tooth knockn says, do NOT do anything dental related. Do all the other things on your list for sure though! You have the rest of your life to do dental things.

Did you apply to buffalo ?

I am from NY also.

NYU , not bad .

How did you study for the DAT ? What material did you use?

I currently just purchased the Ultimate package from crack the dat , chads videos and Kaplan bb ?

What's your opinion ?

Congrats on your acceptance !

I highly recommend shadowing at a dental lab, waxing is done a lot at a lab .

- working/shadowing part-time
If you can I would work full time to save some money for at least living expenses for 1 or 2 years, at least for the rent.

If money is no object, I would travel in Europe, Israel, Greek Isles, or drive across the country, see California, Yosemite, New Mexico and the Grand Canyon.
See some of the sites in NY that many New Yorkers take for granted.....do the whole grand tour of the city. See a couple of broadway shows, especially if you never had before.
Workout every day so you get into awesome shape.....especially strengthen back and neck muscles.
That's what I would do ( : (If you get to do 1/2 that, I'm jealous!)

Buy a dirt bike come out to California and you can stay at my place and we can go to the tracks and desert. Hahaha idk do something fun.

Travel, enjoy your life, spend time with your family/gf/bf.

Countless people on sdn already posted about "what" to use for the DAT and I did nothing differently so check them out. I do have a post on "how" to study for the DAT though if you're interested. Best of luck to you.

Thanks everyone for your input. I'm a poor college kid who's about to take out 250k in loans so it always comes down to money but, at the same time, I'll never be 21 again and probably will never get much better than nowadays in terms of appearance, health, energy, and basically physical and mental capacity to do things. So, from that perspective, it only makes sense to enjoy while I can. That's also probably why some people pay their debt over 25 years while some try to do it in 5 years. Guess I will need to find my own happy medium. Either way, keep the ideas coming!

Working out every day, part time job, traveling

For the first 6 months i would find 2-3 jobs and work like 80 hour weeks. Save like crazy.... If you average 10 bucks an hour, you will have saved around 19K minus taxes (80 hours x $10 x 4 weeks x 6 months).

Then for the next 2 months i would travel. Europe for 3-4 weeks, Hawaii for 2 weeks, and take 2 week long cruises, one to the western carribean and one to the eastern.

With any leftover money i would buy a huge TV.

lol or just save that money for your furture loans.

OP, I think to myself everyday that right now I am the best looking I will ever be. How depressing. Another reason to take as many pictures as possible

I nominate this plan of action! 😎

If you've got a science degree, get a temp agency job in a laboratory. Depending on your experience and degree you can look for jobs paying up to $20.

If I had 8 months I'd be spending the next 4 living in Colorado/Utah, skiing every weekend and working some part-time job to pay rent.

The next 4.. I might try to get a bit of dental lab experience. I've heard from soo many people how much that helps. But probably spend a lot of time at home, at the beach.

But in reality, I'll graduate the end of may and start dental school in July. Soo... I won't be doing any of those things.

P90X. Do not worry about anything else in life, nothing. Dedicate 90 days and I promise you'll end up leaving a "thank you" back on this post. Good luck lol

I'm working part time, got 2 international trips planned. Going early apartment hunting to get myself a sweet pad around school, and organizing my shizzy like music, photo albums and whatnot. Spend more time doing this thing called "leisurely reading," which I suspect is going to be a thing of the past once school starts.

2 chicks.. you know when.

charter a hot air balloon and float all over the sky. watch out for birds. gluck.

you should camp out in death valley for the next 4 months when it is not too hot, then spent the next four in the mountains somewhere.

Dental school will suck your soul. Learn some great recipes and start working out. As for shadowing, volunteering, etc...only do it if its relaxing and rewarding. Don't kill yourself time-wise before school

Do something productive. Do something that will distinguish you from the other 1000 graduates that graduate dental school every year. We will all end up as dentists, but what will make YOU different and competitive from everyone else?

Unless you plan on working in some rural areas or places where dentists are in definite need, You need to learn distinguish yourself to land a job in a more competitive area.
